Mustard has proven itself as a remedy that actively stimulates receptors, mucous membranes, causes hyperemia and improves local blood circulation. As a result, swelling is quickly eliminated, inflammation is relieved. Irritation of receptors promotes intensive discharge of sputum from mucous membranes, as a result of which the bronchi and nasopharynx are cleared of mucus faster, and accordingly, a person recovers faster.
Mustard can be used both externally and internally. Various compresses, cakes, mustard plasters with honey, honey-mustard massage and wraps have proven themselves well. For internal use, decoctions, mixtures, infusions, purees with the addition of mustard and honey are used. Also, for a long time, feet have been steamed to treat bronchitis and wet cough. Then it is useful to wrap your feet in a honey compress. Put on warm socks and go to bed as quickly as possible, covered with a warm blanket.
When performing a massage, the chest, sternum and intercostal areas are usually thoroughly rubbed, areas of intense inflammation and accumulation of mucus and phlegm are tapped. Various types of ointments can be used for massage. The most effective ointments are those made from mustard and honey. For preparation, you will need fresh mustard and honey in a ratio of 1:2. The mixture is thoroughly mixed and applied to the massaged areas.
This ointment allows you to warm up the massaged areas well, stimulates skin receptors, and intensively warms the skin. At the same time, honey has a softening effect, soothes irritated areas, relieves burning and excessive irritation. In addition, the ointment nourishes the skin and saturates it with vitamins, which promotes faster recovery. In case of a strong cough and intense inflammatory process, it is also recommended to massage the back. After the massage, the patient should be covered, wrapped in everything warm, given a glass of hot tea with honey and put to bed.
Compresses and wraps are applied in a similar manner. To apply a compress, apply ointment to the sternum, then soak a cloth in hot water and apply it to the ointment. Put cellophane on top, and then a thin cloth on top. Then wrap the entire area with a warm towel or woolen scarf. The patient should lie in bed and cover himself warmly. The compress can be left on overnight or removed after 2-3 hours.
Wraps are done in a similar way. Only when wrapping, a thin layer of oil or greasy cream is first applied to the skin, after which a thin layer of mustard is spread. Cellophane, waterproof fabric and warm woolen material are applied. After 20-30 minutes, the wrap is removed, the remaining oil and mustard are removed with a cloth soaked in hot water. After this, a thin layer of honey is applied, a compress is applied and left until the morning. The patient should be in bed. It is recommended to give a glass of tea or milk with honey to drink.
You can make cakes from mustard and honey, which are applied to the chest and back. You can also use traditional mustard plasters, which are soaked in honey instead of water and applied to the skin surface. This makes it possible to reduce redness and irritation from mustard, reduce discomfort and burning. As a result, mustard plasters can be kept on longer, due to which the active substance penetrates deeper into the skin and has a more intense anti-inflammatory effect. The body warms up more strongly and deeply. Such mustard plasters are more comfortable for children and the elderly.
You can also steam your feet with mustard. It is important that the temperature does not increase during this procedure. To perform the procedure, take a container and fill it with hot water. The water should be as hot as your feet can stand. Lower your feet into the water. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of mustard to 3-4 liters of hot water. As the water cools, you need to add hot water all the time. At the same time, you can drink warm vegetable juice with mustard added, or any other cough remedy. It is desirable that it be honey-based. Steam your feet for 15-20 minutes. Then put on warm socks and put mustard in them.
For internal use, it is recommended to prepare tea, add 1 tablespoon of honey and half a teaspoon of mustard. Relieves cough, eliminates inflammation.
