Causes renal adenomas

The causes of renal adenoma are unknown. An increased risk of the disease is noted in smokers. Morphologically, renal adenoma is very similar to highly differentiated renal cell carcinoma, and there is a hypothesis that it is an early form of renal adenocarcinoma.
