Today, angina is one of the most common pathologies of the upper respiratory tract. It equally often affects both children and adults. The disease runs hard, accompanied by a strong cough, sore throat, inflammation, fever, general intoxication of the body. It is worth noting that angina is an infectious disease of bacterial origin (streptococcal nature). Along with drug therapy, inhalations for sore throat help to alleviate the condition.
Can inhalation be done for sore throat?
At an appointment with an otolaryngologist, it is often necessary to hear the question whether it is possible to carry out inhalations in sore throat. It turns out that they not only can be done, but even need to do, because they significantly alleviate the condition, reduce inflammation and infection, normalize the condition of mucous membranes. Normalizes the local microflora, mucous membranes moisturize. As a result, recovery comes much faster.
Indications for the procedure
As the main indications for inhalations are considered not only sore throat, but also other inflammatory, infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract, nasopharynx, pharynx. They are most effective in diseases of bacterial genesis, because they normalize the microflora, moisten the mucous membranes. Significantly reduced cough, inflammation, redness. Inhalations also help with various forms of angina: catarrhal, follicular, lacunar, fibrinous.
Inhalation is also prescribed if there is a risk of complications, including diseases of the lower respiratory tract. Inhalations are effective in the prevention and treatment of bronchitis, pneumonia, tracheitis. Some of them help to eliminate spasm of the bronchi and respiratory tract due to the fact that the composition can include various substances that relieve spasm and prevent allergic reactions.
Inhalations for purulent sore throat
Purulent sore throat is considered a rather severe condition that requires serious treatment. In many cases, inhalations are prescribed. Complex treatment is used, which includes drug therapy, the use of antibiotics, physiotherapy, inhalation.
Inhalation for herpes sore throat
Herpes is a virus, so herpes sore throat is considered a viral disease. There are no inhalations aimed directly at destroying the virus. But in this case, inhalations are prescribed to increase the colonization resistance of mucous membranes, improving the general condition of mucous membranes and walls of the respiratory tract.
Also necessarily inhalations should be aimed at improving the state of local immunity, as well as have an impact on improving the overall endurance, resistance of the body, the overall normalization of the immune and hormonal status of the body. This contributes to accelerated recovery, reducing the number of pathogenic microflora.
Inhalation for follicular sore throat
Follicular sore throat is accompanied by intense filling of follicles with purulent, mucous or serous content. Statistically, the mucous content is observed very rarely, most often it is serous (with medium severity of the pathological process), and purulent (with a severe pathological process). Pus is represented by an accumulation of bacterial microflora, dead particles of epithelium, lymphocytes. The danger is that pus can come out of the follicles and go to other parts of the respiratory tract, the brain. It should also be taken into account that it is pus that supports the main inflammatory process and contributes to the accumulation and further progression of infection, which intensifies the pathological process, and more strongly postpones recovery.
Preparation
Inhalation does not require special preparation. One hour before the procedure it is not recommended to eat a heavy meal, you can only drink. It is also necessary to prepare all the necessary materials in advance. If inhalation is done at home, you should prepare a bed with warm blankets and socks in advance, since it is recommended to sleep after the procedure.
Technique of the sore throat inhalations
The first option. In the LPU is performed with the help of special physiotherapy equipment, inhalation devices. They can differ depending on many factors, including the type of device, manufacturer. In this case, the technique of carrying out, the correctness of the procedure, its duration, course is controlled by a specialist in the physiotherapy room.
Second option. When performed at home with the help of a nebulizer, you need to strictly follow the instructions.
The third option is the simplest and is used in folk medicine. Heat water, or a medicinal decoction, pour it into a basin, bend over, breathe steam. The duration of the procedure is 15-20 minutes. After that, you need to get into bed as soon as possible, cover yourself with a warm blanket, put on warm socks.
What inhalations can be done for sore throat?
Almost any type of inhalation is allowed. They should have a warming effect, as well as have an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial effect, since with sore throat develops inflammation due to bacteria (streptococci), and other representatives.
Should contribute to the normalization of microflora, prevent the development of dysbacteriosis. It is important that they soften, increase local immunity. It is often recommended to prescribe a local antibiotic bioporox, which quickly eliminates the focus of infection, normalizes the microflora, relieves inflammation. Also prescribe drugs: decasan, berodual, miramistin, dioxidine, furacillin, various medicinal compositions dissolved in hot water, as part of various herbal decoctions, therapeutic oils, soda, sea water.
Inhalation for sore throat at home
Use numerous folk recipes that have proven themselves: heat boiling water, so that from it there is steam. Let's consider the most effective compositions used in folk medicine.
- Recipe #1.
Separately prepare an oil mixture to add to boiling water for inhalation. Evaporation contributes to the release with steam of oils, esters, which have a therapeutic effect. As a basis, it is better to take a mixture of the following oils: laurel, rut oil and rose oil. In it add a tablespoon of extracts of nettle and celandine. All this is mixed to a homogeneous state, add to the water for inhalation about a tablespoon per liter of water.
- Recipe #2.
To prepare the oil as a base take fish oil, melt it on a water bath, or on low heat until dissolved, with constant stirring. Gradually introduce about 15 ml of St. John's wort seed oil, marjoram and henna. In the resulting mass add 2 tablespoons of chamomile and fenugreek. All this is mixed until the formation of a homogeneous consistency. Take off the fire, give the opportunity to solidify. Add 1-2 tablespoons to 1-2 liters of boiling water.
- Recipe #3.
As a basis take a mixture of massage base oils: grape seed oil, St. John's wort oil, laurel (about 50 grams each), add 5 ml of alcoholic infusion of wormwood, pear-wild pear root, potato flowers, dill seed. Stir. In the resulting mixture add 2 drops of the following essential oils: fir oil, juniper. Thoroughly mixed, add a tablespoon of the remedy to boiling water for inhalation. The procedure is carried out for 10-15 minutes.
- Recipe #4.
Take any body cream. In it add a tablespoon of decoction of mountain ash fruit, mint leaves, dill seeds, valerian roots. You can add 1 ml of sea buckthorn oil. All this is mixed to a homogeneous state, put in hot water for inhalation.
Inhalation for sore throat with nebulizer
When carrying out inhalations with a nebulizer, it is necessary to print a container, dilute the material prescribed for sore throat, following the instructions and recommendations of the doctor. The medicine is poured, the device is assembled, closed and the procedure is carried out. The duration is usually 10-15 minutes. Inhale through the mouth, exhale through the nose, and vice versa. After the procedure, the device is disassembled and must be thoroughly washed. When performing the procedure on children, a special mask is used.
Steam inhalation for sore throat
In sore throat, it is often necessary to treat it at home. When carrying out steam inhalations, it is necessary to observe several conditions. It is important to prepare in advance all the necessary materials: boiling water, a container for inhalation, a towel, a medicinal composition. Pour boiling water into the container, actually it will form a steam. Medication is added to the boiling water, it will evaporate, together with the steam to settle on the respiratory tract, and have a therapeutic effect. A towel will be needed to cover yourself and direct the steam in the right direction, warm the respiratory tract with it.
It is also important to immediately prepare a blanket and warm clothes. To go to bed immediately after the procedure. Otherwise, the procedure is meaningless and will be ineffective.
With what to do inhalation for sore throat?
If you do not know what to do inhalation with, you need to consult a doctor. You should also take into account that with sore throat, the most effective are anti-inflammatory and antibacterial procedures. Consider the most effective compositions.
- Recipe #1.
You take any body cream. It is better to take children's cream. In it add a tablespoon of aqueous or alcoholic infusions of flaxseed, dill water, medicinal turf, wild carrot seeds. You can add 10 grams of ground ginger, which will enhance the effect of the above components. All this is mixed to a homogeneous state. Add 20-25 grams of the remedy to the water for inhalation, stir until completely dissolved.
- Recipe #2.
To prepare the oil as a base take lard, melt it on a water bath, or on low heat until dissolved, with constant stirring. In the resulting mass add 2 tablespoons of decoction of elecampane, eucalyptus leaves, wormwood bitter. All this is mixed until the formation of a homogeneous consistency. Take off the fire, give the opportunity to solidify. Add to the water 2-3 tablespoons.
- Recipe #3.
As a basis for the preparation of massage oil take about 100 grams of fat and 50 grams of cocoa butter. All this is melted until the oil is formed. Prepare in advance in a fireproof bowl a mixture of the following herbal ingredients: infusion of medicinal althea, elm plains, roots of St. John's wort, St. John's wort leaves (at the rate of about 2 tablespoons of each herb per 150 ml of oil). The oil is heated over low heat (without bringing to a boil). As soon as the oil is heated enough, but not yet boiling, takes it off the fire, and pour the pre-prepared herbs. Stir, cover with a lid, insist in a dark place for 24 hours (at room temperature). Add no more than 30 grams of the mixture to the solution for inhalation.
- Recipe #4.
As a base take a mixture of butter, propolis and cocoa butter in a ratio of 2:1:2, add 2-3 drops of myrrh oil and bay oil. Stir. In the resulting mixture add 2 ml of concentrated extracts of the following oils: sea buckthorn oil, fruit of Sophora japonica, pomegranate juice, common calamus. Mix thoroughly, add to the solution for inhalation.
Inhalation with saline solution for sore throat
Saline solution well moistens the mucous membrane, normalizes microflora, creates an unfavorable environment for the reproduction of pathogenic microflora, as a result of which it quickly dies. Usually 9% saline solution is used, in which the prescribed drugs are diluted. Subsequently, the prepared solution is added to the nebulizer.
With the help of this device, the product is atomized into fine particles, which are inhaled by the person during the procedure. It is they that have the main therapeutic effect. It is inappropriate to use saline solution for steam inhalation, because it is a mixture of salts (sodium chloride), which are inactivated under the influence of steam.
Inhalation with decasan for sore throat
Decasan is recommended for use in the form of inhalation in a nebulizer. Decasan is dissolved in 9% saline solution, used according to the scheme prescribed by the doctor.
The dosage and regimen must necessarily be selected by a doctor, as it is calculated individually for each patient, and is determined by body weight, age of the patient, severity of the pathological condition and bacterial load (number of pathogenic microorganisms). In addition, the drug can cross-react with some antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, so the decision on the appropriateness of its inclusion in the composition of complex therapy should also be made by a doctor. Self-medication can be dangerous.
Inhalation for sore throat with baking soda
Soda creates an alkaline environment in the body, which is unfavorable for the vital activity and reproduction of many bacteria. When soda settles on the mucous membranes, their environment changes, respectively, it becomes less favorable for the reproduction of pathogens, their number is sharply reduced. Soda in sore throat is recommended to use in the form of steam inhalations, since steam promotes the dissolution of soda and its penetration into the respiratory tract. Let's consider the main recipes that include soda.
Borjomi inhalation for sore throat
Borjomi is a mineral water with many mineral components. The main active substances are dissolved in this water. Sometimes only water is used to moisten mucous membranes (it has a softening, moisturizing effect), it is used instead of physiological solution.
Inhalation with miramistin for sore throat
This drug has antibacterial, antifungal action. Thus, miramistin eliminates bacterial infection, has an effect on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. In addition, the drug is an effective prophylactic agent that prevents the development of fungal infection, which is very important during treatment with antibiotics.
Most often miramistin is used as part of a nebulizer. Thus, it is dissolved in a ratio of 1:10 with saline solution (unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor). Inhalations are carried out 1-2 times a day, for 7-10 days.
Berodual for sore throat
Berodual has a vasodilating effect, relieves spasm, relaxes muscles. It is widely used to eliminate inflammatory processes. It is used with a nebulizer according to the scheme prescribed by the doctor.
Inhalation with furacilin for sore throat
The most pronounced antibacterial effect of this drug: significantly reduces bacterial contamination. The drug is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, normalizes microflora, prevents the development of dysbacteriosis.
It is worth noting that the drug significantly reduces the number of streptococcal infection, which contributes to the development of sore throat. Usually used as part of a nebulizer, dissolving furacilin tablets in physiological solution. It is also allowed to use in the form of steam inhalations: for this, 2-3 tablets dissolve in 1-2 liters of boiling water, cover with a towel and carry out the procedure for 10-15 minutes.
Dioxidine for sore throat inhalation
For the treatment of sore throat, dioxidine is widely used, which relieves inflammation, eliminates the development of the infectious process, expands the bronchi and alveoli, as a result of which spasm is prevented and breathing is facilitated. It is used according to the doctor's prescription, since the scheme varies significantly and depends on many factors, in particular, age, severity of the infectious process.
Inhalations for sore throat in children
Inhalations relieve inflammation, spasm, relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchi, respiratory tract. In addition, they moisturize the mucous membranes, which relieves irritation, reduces coughing. Recovery is much faster. For children, it is recommended to use steam inhalations. Most often prescribed as a basis for various plant decoctions, or medicinal compositions that are dissolved in water for inhalation, and then inhale steam. Let's consider the main recipes.
- Recipe #1.
To prepare take a tablespoon of decoction of meadow clover, Siberian elderberry, pour about 500 ml of red wine (for example, Cahors). All this is heated without bringing to a full boil, bring to a boil for inhalation at the rate of 50 ml of means per liter of boiling water.
- Recipe #2.
Take equal parts of green tea, oregano, peppermint and narrow-leaved cypress (decoctions). Take about 50 ml of each component, add about 15 grams of black ground coffee, 500 ml of alcohol, insist at least 5 hours, add to the water for inhalation of 50-100 ml.
- Recipe #3.
Vodka or pure alcohol is taken as a base. Then add about a tablespoon of the following components: camphor alcohol, 2-3 drops of ammonia. Stir until the formation of a homogeneous consistency, then set aside to insist for at least 10-15 minutes, put in a bath for inhalation.
- Recipe #4.
In ordinary alcohol (500 ml) add a tablespoon of St. John's wort, black currant, melissa, valerian medicinal. Then bring 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil. Add 50-100 grams to boiling water for inhalation.
- Recipe #5.
For preparation take a tablespoon of chamomile pharmacy, white lily, white lily, lovage, mixed with a tablespoon of honey, pour 500 ml of alcohol (vodka). Infuse at least 24 hours. Add to the water for inhalation.
- Prescription #6.
Take in equal parts wormwood, herb infusion of prostranus herb, infusion of primrose. All this is poured vodka, brought to a boil, set aside, cooled, put 10-15 ml of the mixture per liter of water for inhalation.
- Prescription #7.
As a basis take vodka or pure alcohol. Then add about 2-3 tablespoons of flowers of linden heart-shaped, seeds of vegetable dill. Stir, then set aside and give the opportunity to insist. Introduce 20 ml into the water for inhalation.
Contraindications to the procedure
Inhalation (steam) is prohibited in case of fever, as well as many diseases of the cardiovascular system. As a contraindication to inhalation with a nebulizer is the age under 3 years. In pregnancy and breastfeeding should consult a doctor. Otherwise, the possibility of using inhalations is not limited.
Consequences after the procedure
There are no adverse effects after the inhalation procedure. They contribute to relief, relieve inflammation, prevent the progression of infection, relieve swelling. Negative consequences are possible only if you violate the technique of inhalation, their duration, as well as if carried out when the procedure is contraindicated.
Complications after the procedure
Complications after steam procedures can occur if a person has concomitant heart disease, vascular disease, with elevated temperature. In this case, the temperature can rise to critical values. In diseases of the cardiovascular system there is shortness of breath, palpitations, arrhythmias, hypertensive crisis or angina attacks may occur.
Care after the procedure
No specific care is required after the procedure. The exception is steam inhalation, which is carried out at home. Immediately after them it is recommended to lie in bed, warmly covered, warmly dressed, and be sure to wear warm woolen socks. After about 30-40 minutes you can drink hot tea with honey. For children after inhalation with a nebulizer it is recommended to rinse the mouth with warm water.
Testimonials
If you analyze the reviews, it can be noted that most of them are positive. Negative reviews are isolated, and are observed when the procedure is carried out incorrectly. For example, the mother writes that she conducted steam inhalations to the child regularly for 10 days, but they did not bring relief, the condition did not improve. As it turned out, immediately after the procedure, the child did not go to bed, and continued to play, resulting in cooling of the steamed body, respectively, the condition only worsened.
There was also a case when a girl performed inhalation (steam inhalation) and her temperature rose to 40 degrees, and an ambulance had to be called. As it turned out, before the procedure the girl had a rather high temperature of 37.9, which is a strict contraindication to the procedure. Another case was related to the onset of an attack of angina pectoris, after which hospitalization was also required. An elderly woman exceeded the duration of steam inhalation and performed it for 35 minutes, which is also contraindicated (the recommended duration is no more than 10-15 minutes).
No side effects and negative feedback associated with inhalation with a nebulizer have been identified.
As for the rest of the reviews (and there are a lot of them), they are all positive. People note that inhalation for sore throat significantly alleviates the condition, relieves pain, inflammation. Recovery comes much faster. Reduces coughing, lymph nodes are reduced, you have to resorb pain relieving cough pills much less often. Apply to both children and adults. In addition, in pregnancy and lactation, when taking medication is contraindicated, are an excellent treatment that allows you to cure in a relatively short time.
