Of course, the patient himself and his close relatives ask themselves the question: how to relieve an attack of pancreatitis when it occurs?
There are simple and accessible recommendations that will help in this matter:
- During the first hours after the onset of an attack, it is strictly forbidden to eat any food.
- Of the drinks, you can drink clean water (purified, spring). You should not indulge in mineral water, because it is impossible to predict its effect on the patient's condition in this case. Water is taken little by little, in small sips and at a slow pace. It is better to hold the water in your mouth for some time so that the liquid begins to be absorbed in the oral cavity.
- Ice is placed on the epigastric region, that is, on the projection of the pancreas on the surface of the body. The location of this area can be described as follows - it is located between the chest and the navel. A heating pad filled with cold water is well suited as a means of resuscitation. You can also take any bag from the freezer compartment of the refrigerator and place it on this area.
- Such an event can alleviate the patient’s condition, reducing the intensity of pain, as well as inflammation and swelling.
- The patient is recommended bed rest in a state of complete rest. This is necessary to relieve tension in the pancreas and saturate its blood vessels with blood.
- Experts recommend taking antispasmodics and analgesics. In this case, it is important to have No-shpa, Spazmalgon, Drotaverin, and Maxigan in your medicine cabinet.
- The patient or his relatives must call an ambulance team, whose doctors will be able to understand the situation and resort to further medical procedures.
Sometimes people refuse to seek emergency medical care only out of false modesty and embarrassment. Don't tempt fate and neglect the services of specialists. Even if the problem was exaggerated, it will be better care for your own health than neglecting serious symptoms.
Pancreatitis is characterized by the fact that temporary improvement of the condition is possible, but then a fatal outcome may follow. And this is the case if the solution to the problem is delayed and an examination, correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment are avoided.
- In many cases, an attack of pancreatitis is provoked by a disruption of the gallbladder, namely the normal outflow of bile from this organ. If the patient knows for sure that he does not have stones in the gallbladder, then he can be advised to take two tablets of the drug Alohol. This should be done not once, but three times a day. When the bile leaves, this becomes clear, because the patient's stool becomes liquid. Such movement of bile is useful during an attack of pancreatitis, since it stimulates the natural outflow of gastric juice from the pancreas. An important point is that Alohol is taken only in combination with antispasmodics - No-shpa, Drotaverine, Papaverine.
Medicines for an attack of pancreatitis
Let's list all the medications that are used to relieve the patient's acute condition. The medicine for an attack of pancreatitis is a whole list of drugs:
- No-shpa is an antispasmodic drug that is used in the first minutes or hours of an attack in the form of tablets.
- Drotaverine hydrochloride is also a medication with an antispasmodic effect, which can be used instead of No-shpa. It is used in tablet form.
- Spazmalgon is a drug with a similar spasmolytic effect. It is recommended to use it to relieve the peak state during an attack, and is also taken in tablet form.
- Maxigan is the same antispasmodic as all previous drugs with a similar tablet form.
- Papaverine is an antispasmodic that is injected intramuscularly, in parallel with oral forms of antispasmodic medications.
- Alohol is a tablet that the patient must take simultaneously with antispasmodic drugs if he does not have gallstones.
- Contrycal - is used only by medical personnel in a hospital setting. It helps relieve pain shock during an attack of pancreatitis and also participates in the restoration of pancreatic tissue.
How to quickly relieve an attack of pancreatitis?
Usually, a sick person and his family ask themselves: how to quickly relieve an attack of pancreatitis? Especially, at home and without the presence of medical personnel. Although this is highly discouraged - it is best to call an ambulance and trust the professionals.
However, there are situations in which there is no possibility to resort to the support of medical workers, and the patient urgently needs relief. In this situation, it is recommended to act as follows: provide the patient with rest, cold and hunger. This is not a metaphor, but a guide to action.
So, relatives of a sick person are recommended to:
- Provide him with complete rest. No sudden movements are allowed. The patient should be given 0.8 mg of No-shpa or Drotaverine hydrochloride and washed down with water in an amount of no more than a quarter of a glass.
- An injection of Papaverine solution in the amount of two ml is administered intramuscularly. Papaverine can be replaced with the same amount of No-shpa solution.
- The patient then sits down on a chair or armchair, and his body leans forward. Something must be provided in front to support the weight of the body and head.
- A container with ice (a heating pad, a bag, etc.) is placed on the back in the area of the projection of the pancreas.
- The patient is prohibited from eating.
- Water is taken in the amount of a quarter of a glass at a time. The liquid is consumed every half hour and no more than the previously indicated norm. Only clean water without gas is used as a drink.
- It is forbidden to give the patient such drugs as Creon, Pasinorm, etc., which contain pancreatic enzymes. Neglecting this recommendation can worsen the symptoms of an attack of pancreatitis.
- When vomiting occurs, the patient's stomach must be cleared by pressing two fingers on the root of the tongue. In most cases, the attack of pancreatitis passes after the vomit is released, but this relief is temporary.
