Bipolar disorder: treatment

Treatment of bipolar affective disorder is carried out mainly by normotimic means ("affect stabilizers"), such as lithium preparations, carbamazepine or valproic acid. But sometimes they resort to relatively new drugs: olanzapine, risperidone, lamotrigine, gabapentin, calcium antagonists.

Bipolar affective disorder

Bipolar affective disorder is a mood disorder in which episodes of depression and mania or hypomania can occur. From a major depression, also called unipolar depression, bipolar disorder is characterized by episodes of inadequately elevated mood.
