Rotation of the spine is carried out by the semispinalis muscles, multifidus muscles, rotator muscles, oblique abdominal muscles with unilateral contraction, some action is exerted by the rhomboid muscles and the posterior superior serratus muscle.
Semispinalis muscle - m. semispinalis
Origin: transverse processes of the I - XII thoracic vertebrae.
Attachment: spinous processes of the I-IV thoracic vertebrae and IV-VII cervical vertebrae
Innervation: from the posterior branches of spinal nerves C3-T12.
Diagnostics: With the patient lying on his side or sitting with a forward bend, examine the vertebrae to detect any depression or flattening between them. To determine pain, tap or press on the tops of the spinous processes. If these symptoms are detected, perform deep palpation in the groove between the spinous processes of the vertebrae and the longissimus muscle. Direct finger pressure toward the body of the vertebra, where the greatest pain is localized.
Referred pain: trigger points in the semispinalis muscle of the chest are the cause of severe dull "bone" pain, which brings a lot of suffering to the patient.
