An admixture of blood in urine of normal color can have causes of both a pathological nature, and it is also provoked by physiological, transient factors.
Reasons why yellow-red urine should not be a symptom of illness:
- The period of menopause (pre-menopause), when blood is released not from the urinary system, but from the vagina (dryness, minor ulcers, irritation).
- Taking a specific drug Uropyrin (phenazopyridine hydrochloride). Pyridium is a painkiller that is prescribed for inflammation of various etiologies in the urinary system. The drug has a symptomatic effect as a good analgesic. The drug changes the color of urine. Yellow-red urine with a long course of treatment with Phenazopyridine is considered an acceptable side effect.
- Mixing blood secreted by mucous tissues after manipulations (catheterization, cystoscopy) with urine can also give the effect of a yellow-red color of urine.
- Dehydration during intense physical exertion (march hematuria).
- Overheating of the body when visiting a sauna or bathhouse.
Pathological factors that provoke mixing of shades of urine (yellow-red shade):
- Hematospermia, the release of sperm with signs of blood together with urine. Causes - epididymitis, urethritis, orchitis, diseases of the prostate gland, seminal vesicles.
- Erosive inflammation of the cervix, endometriosis.
- SLE (lupus nephritis), nephritis associated with autoimmune pathology.
Yellow-red urine is most often contamination, a mixture of normal-colored urine and extrarenal bleeding. Clarification of provoking factors and causes is the doctor's prerogative. Self-diagnosis is not only impossible, but also carries the risk of missing the onset of a serious disease.
Urine is red orange in color
Combinations of orange and red urine are quite rare. Most often, red-orange urine is a liquid colored after taking vitamins or medications with inclusions of blood clots.
Let's consider separately the reasons for the change in urine color to a bright orange hue:
- Long-term course of taking vitamins A, B.
- Urine changes color to orange with a red tint after rifampicin, uropyrine, and drugs containing the active ingredient phenolphthalein.
- Bright orange urine color can be caused by a food factor, when the diet includes a lot of fruits or vegetables containing phytopigments. Carrot diet, consumption of asparagus, sea buckthorn, oranges in excess of the norm - these reasons can explain the atypical color of urine.
It is worth discussing the reasons why red-orange urine can be considered an alarming symptom in a separate list:
- Severe dehydration due to chronic urological diseases.
- Extensive (over 40-50% of the body) burns.
- Late toxicosis, gestosis in pregnant women.
- Acute form of pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis.
- An unusually bright shade of urine may be associated with an increased level of vasopressin (antidiuretic substance). This is especially typical for urination in the morning. If urine is red-orange in the morning for several days, you should undergo a comprehensive examination and check the functioning of the hormonal system.
Orange urine with visible blood clots in various forms is a reason to immediately call an ambulance. This symptom indicates a combination of clinical manifestations of an advanced inflammatory process and may indicate a threat of acute renal failure.
