Diseases and conditions in which the concentration of testosterone in the blood serum changes
Testosterone is elevated under the following conditions:
- Uremia.
- Myotonic dystrophy.
- Liver failure.
- Klinefelter's syndrome.
- Cryptorchidism.
- Primary and secondary hypogonadism.
- Cullman's syndrome.
- The use of barbiturates, clomiphene, estrogen, gonadotropin, oral contraceptives.
- Idiopathic hirsutism.
Testosterone is lowered under the following conditions:
- Men with a karyotype of XYY.
- Syndrome of Stein-Leventhal.
- The syndrome of feminizing testes.
- Premature puberty of boys.
- Virilizing luteum.
- Tumors of the adrenal cortex.
- Extragonadal tumors in men, arenoblastoma.
- The use of androgens, dexamethasone, diethylstilbestrol, digoxin, ethanol, halothane, spironolactone, phenothiazines.
- Free testosterone in the blood serum.
