Irritable Bowel Syndrome: Causes

The cause of intestinal disorders in irritable bowel syndrome is unknown. The disease is considered to be polyethological and, apparently, heterogeneous. In his development, the state of higher nervous activity and the type of personality of the patient, the episodes of sexual and physical violence (especially among women) are of great importance.
Patients are characterized by hysterical, aggressive reactions, depression, obsessive, carcinophobia, hypochondriacal manifestations.
The most proven factors of the etiology of irritable bowel syndrome are the following:
- neuropsychic factors and psychoemotional stressful situations;
- violation of the usual diet;
- insufficient maintenance of ballast substances, vegetable fiber in the diet (promotes the development of a variant of irritable bowel syndrome, manifested by constipation);
- sedentary lifestyle, lack of proper sanitary and hygienic state of the toilet (contributes to the suppression of urge to defecate and develop constipation);
- gynecological diseases (cause reflex violations of the motor function of the colon);
- endocrine disorders - menopause, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, obesity, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, etc .;
- transferred acute intestinal infection with subsequent dysbiosis.
