In all cases of coughing, it is necessary to treat the main eabolevanie (sinusitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, left ventricular failure, etc.). Regardless of the cause of the cough, all patients need to give up smoking.
For the treatment of a cough itself as a symptom it is possible to prescribe medications that suppress cough. These funds for coughing are indicated with a dry, expressed cough, not accompanied by the formation of sputum. Such cough occurs with pertussis, laryngitis, pleurisy, compression of the trachea and bronchi with enlarged lymph nodes, mediastinal tumor or aortic aneurysm; laryngeal cancer; presence of goiter, reflex cough, in some cases of chronic pharyngitis. Antitussive drugs include drugs of central action (inhibit the cough center) and cough remedies for peripheral action (reduce the sensitivity of cough receptors).
Cough expectant drugs are prescribed for diseases accompanied by the appearance of sputum. These drugs include drugs that stimulate coughing (reflex and resorptive action); mucolytics (ambroxol, acetylcysteine); mucoregulators (carbocysteine and its derivatives); Mucohydrate (promoting spontaneous hydration); bromchorusics (volatile balms). The use of expectorants should be combined with postural drainage of the bronchi.
When coughing asthma, treatment is carried out in several ways:
- Elimination measures - the maximum possible limitation of contact with the allergen in atopy.
- Basic anti-inflammatory treatment (ketotifen in combined treatment, cromoglycate, nedocromil, antileukotriene drugs, inhaled glucocorticoids) is performed. In some cases, both with "eosinophilic bronchitis" and "cough" asthma, the effect of taking medications may be delayed compared to the classic cases of asthma (it may occur several weeks after the start of treatment).
- Assign bronhorasshiryayuschie symptomatic of cough (simpatomimetiki, cholinolytics, theophylline derivatives).
- Assign expectorants (if necessary).
- Prescribe antibiotics, antifungal drugs (with the addition of secondary infection).
- Conduct ASIT (as pathogenetic treatment for atopy).
