Clinical forms and variants of osteoarthritis

Analysis of the results of large-scale population studies allowed us to identify four of the most common clinical forms of osteoarthritis :

1. Early monoarthrosis of the joints of the lower extremities. Obviously, monoarthrosis of the knee, ankle or other joints of the lower limbs in young people is secondary - after a trauma or surgery (for example, meniskectomy). This form of osteoarthritis is rare.
2. Early monoarthrosis of the hip joint is also secondary - posttraumatic (predominantly in young men) or against the background of congenital dysplasia (mainly in young women). 
3. Combination of osteoarthritis of knee joints and joints of hands. This form is often found in middle-aged women with obesity and hypertension. Affects interphalangeal joints with the formation of nodules and predominantly medial tybiofemoral and patellofemoralnyh compartments of the knee joint. 
4. The combination of gonarthrosis, osteoarthrosis of the brushes, spine and osteoarthrosis of other localizations is commonly called generalized osteoarthritis. IH Kellgren and R. Moore (1952) recommended calling generalized osteoarthritis "... The presence of x-ray signs of osteoarthritis in six or more joint groups, including the first wrist joints of the wrists, proximal interphalangeal joints of the brushes, apophysical joints of the spine, knee joints and the first metatarsophalangeal joints of feet ". According to the classification of osteoarthritis ACR, generalized is called osteoarthrosis with lesion of three or more joint groups with the mandatory involvement of the following: knee, hip joints, apophyseal joints of the spine and joints of hands and feet.
