Today, the number of neurological conditions is constantly increasing. There are many reasons for this: from fatigue and a wrong way of life to severe structural and functional disorders of the nervous system, the brain. One of the common pathologies is the trigeminal nerve neuropathy. With this pathology, there is a loss of sensitivity, pain not only in the area of damage, but also throughout the duration of the nerve. If you do not take timely measures, the disease will only progress. Independently it practically does not pass.
Most doctors first try to apply conservative therapy. Nevertheless, it can not always be effective, and then there is a need for surgical methods. As practice shows, conservative treatment is effective at early stages of pathology development, in the event that muscular atrophy has not yet developed.
An important stage in successful treatment is strict adherence to the prescribed motor regimen. It is necessary to reduce the load. Also, the doctor should write down in detail what kinds of movements are better to exclude, which, on the contrary, include. It is important to exclude long stay in one position, monotonous work, it is better to diversify the spectrum of movements as much as possible.
Etiologic therapy is also based on the obligatory elimination of the cause that caused the disease. In the presence of inflammation, anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed. They help to relieve pain and reduce edema, hyperemia. It may be necessary to regenerate drugs to repair damaged cells and tissues. If you are concerned about severe pain, prescribe analgesics, analgesics. You may need drugs aimed at improving peripheral and cerebral circulation, normalizing the hormonal background of the immune status. Often resorted to physiotherapeutic methods of treatment, prescribe homeopathic remedies, phytotherapy, and even folk methods.
Medications
When applying drugs, strict precautions should be strictly observed: for every step taken, consult a doctor, follow all the instructions, without changing the dosage or the duration of the drug. Treatment of neuropathies is very dangerous for its side effects.
If we admit even a slight error in therapy, treatment at best will be useless, at worst - will cause deterioration of the condition and progression of the disease. The most dangerous complication is brain damage and paralysis. It should be borne in mind that many drugs have a long-term effect. They act very slowly, and their main effect begins to appear after the body has accumulated a certain concentration of the active substance. Therefore, they need to be taken continuously, for 5-6 months, and even more.
Quite often, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed: acetylsalicylic acid 2-3 grams per day, indomethacin 100-150 mg per day, voltaren 100-150 mg per day, brufen 1-2 grams per day. These drugs have been used for a long time, for many years. Simultaneously, corticosteroid preparations can be administered directly to the inflammatory focus, for example, hydrocardisone, Kenalog. Progression of the disease is the basis for the use of basic drugs, for example krizalona 2ml 5% or 1 ml 10% solution once a week intramuscularly.
Vitamins
For successful treatment it is necessary to use vitamins, since it is impossible to restore the organism without them, it is impossible for the normal functioning of the nervous, muscular systems. With a lack of vitamin it is practically impossible to effectively eliminate inflammation and pain. The main vitamins that should be included in the therapy are taken in the following daily dosages:
- Vitamin PP - 60 mg
- Vitamin H - 150 μg
- Vitamin B 1 - 4,5 mg
- Vitamin B 2 - 5.4 mg
- Vitamin D - 45 mcg.
It is also recommended to take vitamin C in a double dosage - 1000 mg per day. It promotes active oxidation-reduction reactions, normalizes metabolic processes, eliminates free radicals. This positively affects the activity of the nervous system: it increases the conductivity of tissues, normalizes excitability, relieves inflammation and pain.
Physiotherapeutic treatment
The main method of physiotherapy is electrophoresis. During this procedure, the patient is given medications through the skin or mucous membranes. To improve their penetration into tissues, and targeted influence on precisely those tissues that need therapeutic effect, microcurrents are used.
The medicine is directly attached to the inflamed part of the nerve, and it has a therapeutic effect there. The advantage is that the drug acts accurately, purposefully, accordingly, its dosage can be reduced. This significantly reduces the likelihood of overdose and the occurrence of side effects. With the help of electrophoresis, salicylates and hydrocortisone are often administered.
Good physical therapy. It is recommended to engage with an instructor who correctly selects exercises that will have the necessary effect, eliminate symptoms. Also, the instructor will monitor the intensity, load force, multiplicity and frequency of repetition. In most cases, the instructor develops an individual set of exercises to perform at home. Exercise should be done in a small dosage, but often. Some movements need to be deleted.
Folk treatment of trigeminal nerve neuropathy
The people widely used various means of animal, vegetable, as well as organic and inorganic origin. Well recommended ointment. For cooking, take 50 grams of badger fat, melt it on low heat, add the previously prepared ash to the garden trees, boil for several minutes. Then remove from heat, and with constant stirring add 2-3 drops of fir essential oil. Continue stirring for 2-3 minutes, after which it is set aside and allowed to stand.
Apply in the form of applications or ointment dressings, which are imposed on the affected area. For the application take a bandage, folded in several layers, apply a thin layer of ointment on it and place on the affected area. After that, stand for 10-15 minutes. After removing the application, wipe the skin with a dry cloth, and apply dry heat on top.
In order to make an ointment bandage, it is necessary to impose the application in the manner described above, after which dry heat is applied from above. It is recommended to apply a warmed fabric, preferably from natural wool. You can apply a layer of cotton over the application, and then wrap it with a warm scarf. Must last at least 40 minutes. After this time, you need to remove the application, wipe the affected area with a dry cotton wool or napkin, top dry heat again and hold for at least 30 minutes.
Spirituous tincture of buckthorn leaves with berries of sea-buckthorn is well suited for wiping affected areas. It relieves pain, eliminates inflammation and swelling, improves the conductivity of tissues, soothingly affects the nervous system. To make the tincture you need to take the grass and berries in a ratio of 1: 2 and pour vodka or alcohol. Then we give the opportunity to brew for a day.
Can be used for rubbing, rubbing the surface of the skin. For wiping, wet a bandage or cotton wool in infusion, squeeze, and rub the affected area. Allow to dry, then rub again, and so 3-5 times.
For grinding, it is recommended to perform a preliminary massage. At first, stroking strokes lightly, warming the skin in the lesion. After this, the squeezing movements are carried out: in the area of painful sensations, a stronger depression is made, in the other zones - moderate. Squeezing is done by grasping the massaged area with two hands, conducting all over the body, to the nearest lymph node. Stroking and squeezing are done on dry skin, without tincture.
After that, they go directly to grinding. Pick up a small amount of tincture, put it on the skin. It is better to use a heated tincture. With sharp movements, the skin is shifted in such a way that a fold is formed under the hands, which should be shifted. It is necessary to do intensive movements. Indicator of quality grinding is reddening of the skin and a feeling of slight burning.
For oral administration, you can use a stimulant that restores the protective potential, endurance of the body, its ability to withstand infectious and inflammatory processes, stimulates the activity of the nervous and muscular systems. To prepare, you need to squeeze the juice of one lemon. Pulp along with the skin we pass through the meat grinder. Similarly misses the figs, the rind of the pomegranate. All this is mixed, we add honey to taste. We take a tablespoon, squeezed two squeezed lemon juice.
Herbal Treatment
Mullein is used to remove inflammation and pain. Use flowers and leaves. Due to the high content of essential oils and saponins, they have anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous effect. Apply as a tincture for rubbing into the affected area. You can do a compress. To do this, a layer of gauze moistened in tincture is applied, covered with cellophane on top, after which a layer of cotton wool is applied. Top with a normal cloth or gauze, then apply a layer of dry heat (a warm woolen fabric). Wrapped flowers and leaves can also be applied to damaged areas for pain relief.
Burdock is used to eliminate pain and relieve inflammation from affected areas. It is often used in the form of mashed potatoes. For cooking, you need to take a large sheet of mug, cut it into small pieces, mix with honey. Add half a glass of water or milk, boil for a few minutes. Then strain. The broth can be used separately for grinding, compresses. A thick mass is applied for 10-15 minutes to the affected areas.
Decoction or infusion of prickly throat is used to tone up nervous and muscle fibers, normalize excitability processes, transfer impulses. Also, they can wipe the affected areas to relieve pain and eliminate inflammation. To prepare a decoction or infusion take about 30 grams of grass for a glass of water.
Homeopathy
Homeopathic remedies are widely used in modern medicine. Despite the fact that they are safer than traditional medicines, there is no need to neglect precautionary measures. Always consult a doctor before you start using any medicine. Medicine knows many examples, when self-treatment ended not just by the absence of any result, but also by the deterioration of the condition. There are cases when non-compliance with the treatment regimen and dosing disorder resulted in the progression of the disease and even complete paralysis.
For treatment of neuropathy, an ointment is used based on plant components and propolis extract. For cooking, take propolis and a small amount of water, melt in a water bath, add to it half a teaspoon of flax seed, and a quarter of a spoon of dried cloves, boil for 3-4 minutes. After that, add a few drops of freshly squeezed aloe juice, mix thoroughly. Ointment is used in the form of applications on the damaged area of the body, compresses, as rubbing and as a means for massage.
Also, in order to prevent the progression of the disease and restore the affected area, it is recommended to make warming from bone meal. Take a linen pouch, it poured a small amount of bone meal, tightly knotted. Warm up in a hot frying pan or in an oven, put on the place where the pain is felt most. First, the bag is wrapped in several layers of tissues until there is a comfortable temperature. Then, as cooling cools off part of the tissue, again placed on the body.
Also, oil for grinding, lubrication of the diseased area works well. For its preparation, take any base oil. It is better to take the oil from the seeds of fruit trees, for example, apricot oil, peach bones, almond. It adds 2-3 drops of spruce and the same amount of eucalyptus, mix thoroughly, apply externally.
For warming, resorption of inflammatory processes, it is recommended to use pepper oil. For its preparation, take any oil, for example, olive. Add a teaspoon of ground pepper (preferably red), stir well, allow to stand for an hour, rub the affected area.
Surgical treatment of trigeminal nerve neuropathy
Operative methods are used only after conservative treatment has demonstrated inefficiency. The indication for the exercise is progressive muscle weakness, severe pain along the nerve. Often the cause is narrowing of the canal along which the nerve passes.
In the course of the operation, all areas that exert pressure on the injured nerve are dissected and removed, or they move the nerve to another area where nothing will press on it.
