Yashur viruses are RNA viruses of the family Picornaviridae of the genus Aphtovirus, consisting of one species represented by 7 serotypes. Causes yashur - zoonotic infectious disease, characterized by a febrile condition, ulcerative (aphthous) lesions of the oral mucosa, skin of hands and feet in humans.
The foot and mouth disease viruses are similar in morphology and chemical composition to other picornaviruses. They have high virulence and dermatotropy. The foot and mouth disease virus can survive for a long time (several pedules) in environmental objects, in food products; sensitive to disinfectants.
The natural reservoir of foot and mouth disease virus is sick animals, especially cattle. From diseased animals, the virus is secreted with milk, saliva and urine. A person becomes infected with care of those sick animals, as well as when using raw milk and dairy products. The susceptibility of man to foot and mouth is not high.
