Symptoms of Chronic Eczema

Intensive itching leads to excoriation. Inflamed itchy skin thickens, superficial dermal lines become more pronounced. Appear thick plaques with deep parallel dermal lines (lichenification). The most commonly affected are easily accessible places and fold areas. Typical localization is on the posterior surface of the neck, popliteal cavity, legs, eyelids and anogenital area. On the affected skin, there may be hypo- or hyperpigmentation.

Treatment of chronic eczema

Chronic eczema is often resistant to treatment; the key to success is the interruption of the "itch-combing" cycle during treatment and the elimination of the causes or sources of worsening of the disease. A cool moist compress to the affected skin for 20 minutes helps to soothe and relieve itching; it can be effective at night urges to combs. In the treatment of chronic eczema, steroid creams or Group I or II ointments that are applied 2 times a day are effective. Group II-IV steroids are used with polyethylene occlusion for 2-8 hours.
