What causes the rupture of the lateral ligaments of the I metacarpophalangeal articulation?
The rupture of the lateral ligaments of the first metacarpophalangeal articulation usually occurs in athletes with unsuccessful attempts to perform exercises on gymnastic projectiles and is the result of forced excess lead of the 1st finger. Most often, a ligament located on the side facing the second finger is damaged.
Symptoms of rupture of the lateral ligaments of the first metacarpophalangeal articulation
The patient complains of pain and dysfunction of the first finger following the trauma.
Diagnosis of rupture of lateral ligaments of the metacarpophalangeal joint
Anamnesis
In the history - a characteristic trauma.
Examination and physical examination
The finger and the brush in the area of elevation of the 1st finger are sharply edematous. Active and passive movements in the metacarpophalangeal joint are limited due to pain and swelling of surrounding tissues. After anesthesia or a few days after the injury, it is possible to detect excessive deviation and swelling of the first finger. Opposing a finger is impossible.
Laboratory and instrumental research
On X-rays, you can see the separation of the cortical plate (with the ligament loose) or the subluxation of the finger.
Treatment of rupture of the lateral ligament of the first metacarpophalangeal joint
Conservative treatment of rupture of the lateral ligaments of the first metacarpophalangeal articulation
Conservative treatment of rupture of the lateral ligaments of the first metacarpophalangeal joint is prescribed with fresh trauma. It consists in fixing the first finger with a plaster graft in the position of opposition to the second finger for a period of 3 weeks. Assign UHF through gypsum from the 3rd day, after immobilization - rehabilitation treatment.
Surgical treatment of rupture of the lateral ligaments of the first metacarpophalangeal articulation
