Mukocele develops when the drainage of the normal sinus secretion is disturbed due to infection, allergies, trauma or congenital narrowness of the drainage pathways. A slowly growing cyst with mucoid content and epithelial cell detritus is formed, which gradually destroys the sinus bone wall, spreads to surrounding tissues. Growth in the orbit often occurs with the mucocele of the frontal or latticular sinus and, more rarely, Hymoroid.
Symptoms of mucoceles of the eye
Soreness in forehead, exophthalmus or dystopia, edema of periorbital area or upper eyelid.
Mukocele eyes are manifested in middle age in the form of exophthalmos, dystopia, diplopia or lacrimation. Pain is not characteristic if infection does not occur (mukopiocele).
CT scan reveals soft tissue formation with thinning of the sinus bone wall.
