Anhydride arsenic, arsenic acid (Acidum arsenicosum As203) is used in dentistry for the treatment of inflamed pulp. This sympathicotropic poison, which acts on the smallest blood vessels, they are torn, as a consequence - the nutrition of the pulp tissue is disturbed and it is necrotic. Arsenious periodontitis is a consequence of incorrect treatment of acute pulpitis. Causes of development of medical periodontitis:
- Overdose of arsenic anhydride upon administration to the pulp.
- Failure to comply with the prescribed time of the drug in the dental cavity (more than 2 days), which is not always the fault of the doctor. Often, patients forget to visit the dentist's office on time, and sometimes they are not at all for further treatment, as the main reason for going to the dentist is pain, it stops.
Symptoms of arboreal periodontitis
Usually, the symptomatology manifests itself in the process of treatment, and not only the patient himself notices it, but the experienced doctor also reveals it. In addition, that local inflammation develops in the periodontal tissues, there are signs of a mucous burn, especially if this kind of periodontitis is localized at the margins (marginal periodontitis). The apical form provokes the following symptoms:
- Constant aching pain in the area of the aching tooth. The pain is not intense, even.
- The pain is greatly enhanced by pressure on the diseased tooth, when biting hard food.
- The patient experiences a subjective feeling of an enlarged tooth.
- The tooth is mobile.
- With a burn form, acid on the mucous, the gum may be hyperemic in the tooth treatment zone.
Symptomatic arsenic periodontitis is non-specific, therefore it is differentiated with manifestations of other types of periodontal inflammation. The patient needs careful attention to any manifestations in the oral cavity during the treatment of pulpitis, since the medication form of periodontitis is best stopped at the very beginning, before the development of complications.
How is periodontal disease caused by arsenic acid treated?
First of all, the cause of the periodontal inflammation is neutralized, that is, the paste or turunda with the drug is removed, the antidote is administered, anesthesia is performed. Then the outflow of exudate is ensured, for this, the necrotic pulp is already removed (removed), the channels are opened and cleaned, often antibacterial agents are introduced into them. After carrying out all measures for sanation of the inflamed zones, the tooth is sealed.
