From Latin, "defloration" is translated as the removal of a flower or virginity. As you can see, in ancient times, virginity was compared to a flower. Nowadays, it is treated less reverently. But there is also less knowledge about how to behave correctly during the first intimacy, so as not to make the girl suffer from hellish pain when breaking the hymen. The hymen is a very capricious part of the girl's body. It can be so strong that it remains intact even after sexual intercourse. It just stretches, and that's it. Who is worried about pain during defloration, and who can very easily avoid it?

Why is the hymen needed?

What is the hymen? It is a small thin fold in the vagina, which consists of a mucous membrane. The hymen is designed to close the entrance to the vagina before it breaks. It is located at a distance of 2-3 cm from the labia minora (they are internal, there are also labia majora - external).

The thickness and elasticity of the hymen depends on the characteristics of the girl's body. The older the woman, the less elastic and stretchable her hymen is. For example: if a woman remains a virgin until she is 30, her hymen loses elasticity by 70-80%. This is one of the theories that most physiologists are inclined to. But you can have different points of view on this issue, and if you want to remain a virgin for a long time, this desire also has a right to exist.

There are situations when the hymen is anatomically overgrown. Then it prevents menstrual flow. In this case, it is recommended to remove the hymen surgically, since the absence of menstruation interferes with many processes in the body, in particular, it increases the risk of diseases of the reproductive system.

Before the hymen is torn by sexual intercourse, it protects the vagina from infection.

Pain during defloration: causes

Pain during defloration occurs because the mucous membrane of the hymen is permeated with blood vessels, which, when ruptured, send pain signals to the brain via nerve endings. In addition, when the hymen ruptures, inflammatory processes may occur in the vagina, which can also cause pain.

In this case, both the girl and her partner need to learn a little more about proper sexual intercourse that will take place for the first time. In particular, use lubricants that contain painkillers. And also study positions that will make the loss of virginity less painful, and self-help methods for pain during defloration.

Symptoms of pain during defloration

Pain during defloration is not the most important symptom. It may not be very strong or very strong, bleeding may be active or limited to a few drops. Options may be different: clearly manifested or mixed. For example, severe pain and minor bleeding or vice versa. The presence or almost complete absence of pain depends on how the hymen is structured and how the act of intercourse itself is performed. And also on the specific health condition of the girl at the time of intercourse.

Those who are afraid of defloration need to know that more than a third of girls do not experience any pain during their first sexual intercourse. There is no bleeding during defloration in 10% of cases. And in some cases, there is no hymen at birth - such are the anatomical features of girls. There are also cases when there is a large hole in the hymen at birth, so sexual intercourse does not cause any discomfort. In this case, there is no bleeding, so there is no rupture.

Bleeding depends on how delicately the sexual intercourse was performed and also on how many vessels are contained in the hymen. If there are few vessels, then there is nowhere for the blood to come from. If there are many, then the bleeding is profuse. A situation is considered normal when after defloration, blood flows from the vagina for a period of one day to a week. Such situations should not be feared, unless, of course, the bleeding is profuse and is not accompanied by severe pain for a week. Then you should consult a gynecologist.

What types of defloration are there?

Doctors distinguish between incomplete and complete defloration. If there are 1-2 ruptures in the hymen, this is incomplete defloration. This happens with rough sexual intercourse, improper gynecological examination, deep penetration of fingers during petting, trauma to the reproductive system. It also happens that the hymen remains in place even after several sexual acts. It simply stretches. If the hymen is very strong, it is removed surgically.

When complete defloration occurs - a complete rupture of the hymen, the girl experiences minor bleeding from the vagina. This is nothing to be afraid of. The main thing is not to infect the wound and not to traumatize it even more with subsequent sexual intercourse.

Many girls are afraid of defloration because they think it will cause them severe pain. And men, in turn, think that if they did not see blood on the bed after the first wedding night, then the bride is not a virgin. This brings a lot of misunderstanding to both. It is important to know the answers to the questions: how to make defloration an almost painless act and what to do if the hymen cannot be broken?
