What to do if your lip is swollen and how to deal with it? First of all, it is worth determining the reason why this happened. Thus, this phenomenon can occur due to an allergic reaction, the presence of inflammatory and infectious processes, trauma, gum inflammation, herpes and dental intervention.
The first step is to diagnose the problem and prescribe the appropriate treatment. This issue is handled by a doctor. He will be able to determine the cause during a visual examination.
You should not start any treatment on your own. Especially if you suspect a serious illness. Both folk remedies and serious medications will help relieve swelling. All unpleasant symptoms are eliminated quickly. The main thing is to determine the cause of this phenomenon. It is worth understanding that in many cases the problem will not be able to disappear on its own. Therefore, high-quality and timely treatment are relevant. If your lip is swollen, and there are other symptoms, you need to see a specialist.
It is advisable to determine the reason for this phenomenon. So, if a bruise is to blame, then compresses should be applied immediately. It does not matter how warm or hot it is. You need to start with any, and if a positive effect cannot be achieved, move on to the second method. A cold compress can slow down the blood flow to the damaged area. To do this, simply wrap a few ice cubes in a napkin and apply to the bruise. A good alternative can be a piece of cloth soaked in hot water. If a wound has formed at the site of injury, it should be treated with hydrogen peroxide. It is advisable to resort to the help of antiseptics Miramistin, Chlorhexidine and healing ointments Actovegin and Solcoversil.
If the swelling is caused by an infectious disease, it is necessary to take antiseptic drugs into service. They can quickly stop the infection and prevent it from spreading further. The most popular antiseptics are Orasept, Chlorophyllipt and Bioparox. All these medications have excellent bactericidal, antiseptic and analgesic effects.
When a tumor occurs against the background of inflammatory processes, you need to act immediately. You should immediately resort to some measures. You need to take an iodine solution and mix it with water in a 1:1 ratio. You need to constantly treat the affected area with this remedy. Drinking still water also provides significant hydration. If this does not help to cope with the problem, you should seek help from a specialist.
Lip swollen from herpes? It is necessary to act! In no case should you squeeze or burst the formed blisters. It is advisable to resort to the help of special antiherpetic drugs. These include Zovirax, Herpevir and Acyclovir. They contain components that allow you to quickly cope with the problem.
If the lip is swollen due to an allergic reaction or exposure to external factors, it is worth determining what exactly caused this phenomenon. It is advisable to review the diet, pay attention to cosmetics, household appliances, animal hair, etc. It is necessary to remove the allergen. If the lip is swollen due to overdried skin, it is worth resorting to the help of moisturizing creams or balms.
Treatment for swollen lip
Treatment of a swollen lip involves the use of several methods. But first, it is necessary to determine the exact cause of the phenomenon, and then begin the elimination.
If the swelling is due to an inflammatory process, you can feel the smell from the wound. There are also pus formations or other discharges. If this process is accompanied by pain, you should treat the wound with hydrogen peroxide. Inflammation can begin due to the presence of an open wound. If the pain does not subside at all, then most likely we are talking about a serious case. You should consult a doctor who will prescribe high-quality treatment. In some cases, surgery cannot be avoided. You should pay attention to antiseptics such as Miramistin and Chlorhexidine. Healing ointments Actovegin and Solcoversil are also suitable.
Miramistin has a broad effect. It is used in both otolaryngology and gynecology. It is advisable to rinse the affected area with a small amount of the drug. One rinse takes 10-15 of the drug.
Chlorhexidine is a bactericidal agent. In the form of a 0.5% solution, it is used to treat the affected area. This is done no more than 2 times a day.
Actovegin is prescribed 1-2 tablets 3 times a day before meals. The medication should not be chewed. The duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the situation. In the form of an ointment, the drug is applied 2-3 times a day.
Solcoversil is taken in the same way as Actovegin. Before starting treatment, you should consult a doctor.
If the tumor is caused by an infection or a viral disease, then antiseptics should be used. When choosing them, pay attention to contraindications and side effects. The attending physician should select the medicine. Zovirax, Acyclovir and Herpevir ointments are suitable. They are applied in a thin layer to the affected area (in the case of herpes), about 5 times a day. It is advisable to take tablets orally, with the same name. The scheme of application is described in the instructions. Basically, 5 tablets should be taken per day. It is also recommended to pay attention to antiseptics that can effectively fight infections. These include: Orasept, Chlorophyllipt and Bioparox.
Orasept has an analgesic effect. The product is intended for spraying in the oral cavity. The duration of the course of treatment and dosage directly depend on the patient's age and the problem itself. It is advisable to perform 3-5 sprays every 2-4 hours. On average, therapy lasts 5 days. For children under 12 years old, it is necessary to do 3 sprays every 2-4 hours.
Chlorophyllipt is taken depending on the complexity of the situation. Usually it is taken orally 25 drops 3 times a day, or administered intravenously. The latter option is performed if there are microbes in the blood. In general, the dosage is prescribed individually.
Bioparox is taken for pharyngitis, laryngitis and other inflammatory diseases of both the mucous membrane of the throat and the oral cavity. To use, put a nozzle on the cylinder and inhale through the mouth. The nozzle is tightly clamped with the lips. During a deep breath, press on the base of the cylinder.
If the tumor appeared due to an allergic reaction, then you need to take medications aimed at combating them. This can be suprastin, kestin and claritin.
Suprastin is taken orally during meals, 0.025 g 2-3 times a day. If the condition is too severe, the drug is administered intramuscularly and intravenously, in the dosage prescribed by the attending physician.
Kestin can be taken only with the permission of a doctor. The permissible dose for a child is 0.5-1 tablet. An adult should take 1-2 tablets per day.
Claritin. The recommended dose for children over 12 years old is 1 tablet per day. The duration of treatment is prescribed by the attending physician.
An allergic reaction can be of a peculiar nature, so it is not worth taking risks. In general, if your lip is swollen, you should not hesitate, it is recommended to immediately begin to eliminate the problem.
If you don't want to use medication at all, you can resort to folk medicine. But still, this should be done under the supervision of a doctor. Because the cause of the swelling may be serious.
Aloe juice will help get rid of the problem. You need to take a large leaf, chop it finely and squeeze the juice out of it into a cotton pad. The resulting "remedy" is applied to the affected area for 15-20 minutes.
A good effect is provided by a mixture of turmeric, Fuller's earth and water. All these powders are mixed together in equal quantities and diluted in a small amount of water to form a paste. The product is applied to the swelling for 15-20 minutes.
Baking soda can also help. This ingredient is mixed with water until it becomes a paste, then the resulting substance is applied to the swelling. Literally 10 minutes later, everything is washed off.
Don't forget about the healing properties of honey. Apply this ingredient to a cotton pad and apply it to the swollen area for 20 minutes. Then wash everything off with cold water. Repeat the procedure several times a day. If your lip is swollen, don't delay treatment, it can be either medicinal or with the help of traditional medicine.
