The uterus in the prepubertal period

As the girl grows, the ratio of the length of the cervix and the body of the uterus changes. In childhood, the body of the uterus is smaller than the cervix, but as the child grows older, the body of the uterus increases, and the endometrium is not visualized.

Vagina, rectum and bladder

Begin with transverse sections, moving the transducer downward and posteriorly. Identify the vagina, rectum, and lower bladder. Determine the shape of the bladder at this level. Tilt the transducer, located in the midline, from the fundus to the upper pelvic cavity.

Identify the cervico-uterine angle, then visualize the ligaments on either side of the cervix, the isthmus, and the body of the uterus. Try to visualize both ovaries.

Intrauterine contraceptives

The intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) is visualized as a linear or intermittent hyperechoic line in the endometrial cavity or in the cervical canal, and a distal acoustic shadow may be determined.

Fluid in the retrouterine space

Quite often, a small amount of fluid is detected in the retrouterine space after ovulation or menstruation. The presence of an anechoic strip up to 1 cm thick during transverse scanning is allowed.

Cervix

Scan the cervix in different projections, identifying any deviation from normal size and shape. After childbirth, the cervix may be asymmetrical.

After each pregnancy, the uterus increases in size, and the body of the uterus becomes more rounded. Thus, the uterus of a woman who has given birth to many children will differ significantly from the uterus of a woman who has not given birth. Write down the size of the uterus.
