Water - its contribution to human life is hard to overestimate. According to experts without food, we can live, without harm to health, for about eight weeks, whereas the absence of moisture brings death nearer after three days. Therefore, such a simple question, like the thirst for water, has been and remains quite relevant.
Causes of thirst
With the onset of hot summer days, the feeling of dry mouth begins to haunt many. And this is understandable. The liquid with greater intensity begins to leave the body through the sweat-out system. We also know that such a discomfort can be caused by salty or strongly peppery food, but the causes of thirst are much wider.
- Dehydration can lead to great physical exertion.
- High temperature indoors or hot season. Long stay under the scorching rays of the sun.
- Such a result is capable of giving strong coffee or alcoholic drinks.
- Not properly conducted diet.
- A strong desire to drink can be a sign of intoxication: increased consumption of vapors of toxic substances, close contact with household or industrial chemicals.
- Work in the hot shop.
But these are sources that are easily adjusted. There are also more dangerous catalysts for this symptomatology:
- Diarrhea. Its increased intensity can lead to rapid dehydration of the body. Untimely provision of medical care threatens coma and even death (especially in the case of small children).
- Abundant bleeding, because blood is also a liquid and its loss depletes the human body.
- Diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia. If you want to drink even after a lot of drinking, you should check the blood glucose level. Thus the patient can suffer dizziness, there can be a rapid growth or, conversely, weight loss.
- Many medications in the side effects of admission have this symptom, but with the withdrawal of the medication, discomfort usually passes by itself, without further adjustment. These drugs include hypotensive, antihistamines, expectorants and diuretics, as well as a number of antibiotics and other chemical compounds.
- Dysfunction of the parathyroid glands, especially this result, gives hyperparathyroidism.
- Kidney diseases that have lost the ability to retain fluid. I want to drink constantly, frequent urge to visit the toilet, puffiness increases.
- Cystitis.
- Polycystic organ.
- Glomerular nephritis.
- Pyelonephritis.
- Pathologies affecting liver tissue.
- Cirrhosis.
- Hepatitis.
- This pathology can be a consequence of trauma, especially if it touches the head.
- Infectious or viral damage to the body. The result of their life is the toxic substances produced.
- This symptom is able to talk about the presence in the human body of a tumor neoplasm, both benign and malignant.
- Deficiency of vasopressin - a hormone produced by the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland. In this case, we can not do without substitution treatment.
- Failures of water metabolism - diabetes insipidus.
- Burns, affecting a significant area of the skin.
- Disorders of a psychological nature.
- Schizophrenia.
- Emotional instability.
- Obtrusive condition.
If the first half of the reasons people are able to exclude or eliminate themselves, then in the case of the second, without medical intervention can not do. Therefore, if the constant thirst pushes and find a weighty reason for this pathology is not possible, ignore such a picture should not be. It will be better to hear from a specialist that everything is in order with health, and you just need to correct your daily and nutrition regimen than to miss the early period of the onset of a more serious illness.
However, as experience shows, many people simply drink more liquid, without hurrying to see a specialist and when they finally reach the doctor, it happens that a number of processes are already irreversible. After all, if, for example, cystitis is not difficult to notice, then a number of diseases, for the time being, except dry mouth do not show themselves, and when there is an additional symptomatology, the extent of the disease tends to severe pathology (eg, pyelonephritis).
Do not ignore this fact, if the need for a liquid appears almost every hour, while still it's day or night. Such a symptomatology is practically a visiting card of some kidney diseases and requires immediate treatment to a nephrologist.
Why is it recommended to drink salted water in the summer with thirst?
The need for a liquid is an absolutely normal physiologically grounded phenomenon. Many people know that to maintain normal functioning of the body, an adult should drink during a day at least one and a half to two liters of liquid. In the hot period of time, the human body loses more fluid, which leaves through the pores of the epidermis and the urinary system. More losses - more the body's need for moisture.
Many respondents ask a logical question, why in the summer when thirst is recommended to drink salted water? To get an answer to it, you need to understand the mechanism of losses.
According to experts, against the background of summer heat, when there is a need for drinking, drink should be no more, but, conversely, less. At first glance this sounds absurd, but physiologically this fact is justified. Such a step will allow to keep the water - salt balance of the organism in the norm.
It should be remembered that at high outside temperatures, the process of sweating is activated in order to lower the body temperature: the output moisture cools the body. If at this time, increase the consumption of moisture, so do the volumes of sweat that can be extracted, and salt and useful trace elements (such as potassium and sodium), so necessary for the normal functioning of the body, leave with it. There is a violation of water-salt-electrolyte balance.
This factor requires the introduction of either specialized formulations, for example, such a drug as "Regidron", or you can do with simple water with a small amount of salt dissolved in it (fine if it is iodized or sea salt).
This simple action allows solving three problems at once:
- Reduces the desire to drink.
- Reduces the activity of the process of perspiration.
- Maintains the necessary level of salts in the body.
But it should be remembered that such actions are justified in the case of a healthy organism, but if he suffers any pathology, the recommendation should be given only by a qualified specialist.
How to drink water after prolonged thirst?
As the centuries-old experience shows, the question is, how to drink water after a long thirst? Has not lost its relevance. Because a person who has been without fluid for a long time, or feels dehydration of the body due to sweating, gets to the water, eagerly to drink it, without feeling the measure in the volumes. But it is absolutely unacceptable.
To consume moisture should be very cautious, in several mandatory stages:
- Primarily it is necessary to take water in the mouth and rinse it with moisture.
- Then we start to drink in small sips and very slightly - then make a pause.
- And only after a certain time, if necessary, you can drink some more water.
- You can not drink without a break until the disappearance of thirst. In this scenario, too much fluid will enter the body, which will be abundant. In this case, internal organs (digestive tract) may also suffer.
- To receive a full daily volume of fluid can come only after a couple of days after the beginning of the restoration of dehydration.
Immediately drink a large volume is impossible for the simple reason that dehydration affected all internal organs. The dried up organism is not able to take at once such quantity of a product. This provokes him to spasms, which can lead to an inflammatory process and the development of the disease.
It must also be remembered that excess moisture is as harmful (perhaps, to a lesser extent), as is its lack. In the case of a dry sensation in the mouth, it is worthwhile to teach your body to refrain from heavy drinking and frequent approaches. Then after a while the body itself will begin to ask less, it will less often make itself felt and thirst.
One of the examples is staging jogging - the most energy-intensive sport. In addition to the large expenditure of calories, the body also experiences relative dehydration. It is a few sips, not all bottles, that can bring the body to life after a grueling run. The reception of half-liters will be correct to distribute the minutes by 20. Then the body will receive the necessary amount of liquid, while not harming itself.
A man is 90% water - this is the first thing that children learn in school in a biology lesson. The lack of such an invaluable product leads to dehydration of the whole organism. The thirst for water can become an unpleasant easily correctable discomfort, but it can be a "bell" through which the body signals to its owner about the pathological changes taking place in it, which must be urgently addressed. Such a signal must be heard and understood as soon as possible. After all, timely access to a qualified specialist is an early diagnosis and treatment, and as a result - the fastest relief of the problem with the least losses for the body.
