This type of disease was distinguished by almost all authors of classifications. P.B. Gannushkin also called them dreamers, and E. Kraepelin - eccentrics, they also received the characteristic of inadequate from T. Henderson and pathologically withdrawn from O.V. Kerbikov.

These individuals are characterized by uncommunicativeness, being in their own world, far from reality, endlessly "chewing" their own thoughts and worries, an absolute lack of interest in the problems of their immediate environment. According to E. Bleier, this variant of characterological deviations is also called autistic psychopathy. Indeed, these people have character traits inherent in autists - outwardly they show practically no emotions, their psyche is deprived of natural flexibility, their movements are constrained, unnatural, they do not mix with the environment, being in their closed world. These people are loners, not striving for communication, preferring interesting books, educational and contemplative activities.

The emotional dissonance of schizoid psychopathy consists of hypersensitivity and vulnerability when something affects their personal interests, and complete indifference to the problems and interests of other people. All efforts of schizoid psychopaths are aimed at satisfying their own desires and interests, while commercialism and vanity are alien to them. Such people are considered eccentric hermits and great originals. At work, they work as they see fit, absolutely not listening to the opinion of management. Uncontrollable, they do only what corresponds to their ideas about life values. Nevertheless, in the field of art, theoretical research, they have no equal, especially if they like the work. The unconventional thinking, talent and originality inherent in schizoids can bring them fame and recognition.

They are not capable of permanent long-term relationships and, as a rule, they do not have a family. Schizoid psychopaths cannot sacrifice even the smallest things for the sake of their loved ones, but they are often ready to implement some abstract plans, sparing no effort. Not wanting to take part in the problems of their loved ones, they are ready to fight day and night, for example, with global warming. Absolute passivity in overcoming pressing and daily problems is combined in individuals of this type with rare energy and assertiveness when it comes to performing tasks that are important to them.

If a schizoid is interested in power or wealth, then such goals will also be achieved with persistence and perseverance. For this, he will even come out of his "shell".

Schizoid psychopaths are divided into two subtypes: sensitive (with a predominance of hypersensitivity) and expansive (emotionally cold with periodic bursts of excitement).

Sensitive psychopathy - hypersensitive individuals, with an overly delicate mental organization, who experience even the most insignificant remark, rudeness or offensive statement addressed to them for a long time. They are wary of the world around them, have a very narrow circle of communication, and are characterized by morbid pride. Experiences associated with themselves and their actions are very deep. Their mental balance is easily disturbed, and this state lasts for a long time, the person becomes apathetic, isolates himself from the environment, bringing himself to self-torture.

Expansive psychopaths of the schizoid type are distinguished by their determination, lack of hesitation and doubt, neglect the considerations of others, and are dry and formal in their communication with them. Demanding of others is combined with arrogance, heartlessness, and even cruelty. Such behavior is designed to protect their self-doubt and vulnerability, which schizoids hide well under the mask of self-confidence. They like to give advice, unceremoniously interfering in other people's affairs, and reasoning on any topic in a rather unconventional way, even when no one asks for their opinion. Reasoning is not combined with high moral qualities.

And although schizoid psychopathy does not belong to excitable types, expansive schizoids often, as a response to difficult situations, display excitation reactions - impulsiveness, anger, rage. In cases of severe psychopathy, due to their inherent mistrust, paranoid states may appear, manifested in the form of delusional experiences associated with an affectively charged complex.
