Many people, if they find a tartar, try to get rid of it by hooking them with a needle, a pin and even a knife. Not only is this very dangerous, it can also lead to injuries to the gums and damage to the enamel. Others use too hard toothbrushes in the hope that they will reduce the possibility of depositing a hard plaque. But this method also has negative consequences, in the form of permanent gum trauma (especially in those with whom they are sensitive). Removal of tartar should be performed only by specialists in specialized dental offices or clinics. They will do it quickly, qualitatively and completely painlessly. What are the methods for removing hard plaque, how is the procedure for removing it, and can I remove tartar at home? We answer all these questions in our article.

Is it necessary to remove tartar?

It would seem, what can be dangerous tartar, if it does not even hurt? These deposits consist of hardened, like cement, minerals, bacteria and food residues. All this explosive mixture disrupts the acid balance in the mouth, which leads to the multiplication of pathogenic bacteria by the inflammation of the gums, an increased likelihood of caries formation and, as a consequence, an unpleasant odor from the mouth. Do you think that's all? No! Growing, hardened plaque presses on the soft part of the gum, exposing the root of the tooth. This leads to loosening of the teeth and subsequent periodontitis. If the periodontitis is not treated, then you can lose completely healthy teeth. From all of the above, the answer arises that it is necessary to remove hard plaque, moreover, without fail!

Methods for removing tartar

Nowadays, developed technologies have an incredible variety of methods for removing tartar, and even their combination. We will consider the most basic.

  1. Mechanical removal of hard plaque.
  2. Removal of calculus with ultrasound.
  3. Laser removal of hard plaque.
  4. Erase using the Air Flow procedure.
  5. Chemical removal of cured plaque.

Now let's look at each of the methods in more detail.

The procedure for removing tartar by a conservative method (mechanically)

The principle of this method consists in chipping the hard plaque manually with a special spoon. This is a rather traumatic method of disposal and is now practically never practiced anywhere. Unless in the old state polyclinics. But there is one advantage of this method - it is the cheapest.

Removal of tartar with ultrasound

The most common method. The procedure for removing cured plaque by this method is carried out using a special ultrasonic device that destroys it. At the same time, its removal occurs without contact, only the nozzle of the device touches the tooth surface. In addition, with this method, the surface of the tooth is treated with a strong stream of water and air, thanks to which even the smallest fragments of hard plaque recoil. The method of removing tartar with ultrasound is less traumatic, but patients with sensitive gums note slight discomfort during the procedure. But there is an opinion that ultrasound is not as safe as it is advertised, since it is still a vibration, and it is impossible to predict what damage will be done to the teeth themselves. The ultrasonic method of removing hardened plaque is available in good dental offices and all private dental clinics, while its cost is average.

Laser removal of tartar

A fairly new, but the most atraumatic method of removing hard plaque. With laser removal of tartar, its destruction is performed by a special laser, which does not affect the enamel of the tooth and gum. In addition, the laser action also has an antiseptic effect, so that the prophylaxis of reproduction of pathogenic bacteria is carried out in the oral cavity. And that is not all! The laser has the ability to whiten teeth. That is why the laser method of removing hardened plaque is the best. Unfortunately, far from all dental clinics can provide such a service. Since the plants for removing the hard plaque with a laser are quite expensive. Accordingly, the cost of the procedure will be significantly different.

Removal of tartar Air Flow

Usually, the Air Flow removal procedure is combined with an ultrasonic method. Its principle is to treat the tooth surface with a strong head of water with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). Often this method is also called sandblasting. With this method, it is impossible to remove large and thick areas of hard plaque, so they are first removed by ultrasound. The method of removing the tartar Air Flow ideally removes soft deposits and small deposits of solid supragingival deposits, so it is best to use it for preventive purposes. Although the surface treatment of the tooth is baking soda, it is still an abrasive method, so there is a certain probability of traumatism of tooth enamel and gums.

The chemical method of removing tartar

In the chemical method of removing hard plaque, special solutions of alkalis and acids are used, which dissolve tartar. This is a rather aggressive method, since there is a high probability of injury by concentrated gum chemicals. In our time, this method is used quite rarely and only if other methods can not be used for some reason.

Is it painful to remove tartar?

This question can not be answered unambiguously, since the sensitivity of the gums is different for different people. If we generalize, then we can say that the mechanical method is the most unpleasant, ultrasound is practically painless, well, the laser method leads, it does not cause any discomfort.

Removal of tartar during pregnancy

Many people are wondering whether it is possible to remove a hard plaque during pregnancy. We answer. In principle, you can, but only if you do not have a phobia at dental clinics. Excitement and stress are transmitted to your child, while his pulse increases. The removal process itself will not cause any harm. Do not use only anesthesia (in the first trimester of pregnancy).

Removal of tartar by alternative means

What to do if you have a phobia in your dental chairs? You can try home removal of hard plaque by alternative methods. Of course, they will not give any guarantee, but as they say "try not torture". So, in this difficult business will help us:

  • rubbing teeth with a strong decoction of walnut branches several times a day;
  • use for mouthwash rind decoction of lime blossoms and empty sunflower baskets;
  • application inside the decoction of the horsetail of the field (drink 2-3 times a day by a course of 20 days);
  • application inside the broth of bean leaves and burdock (drink 3 times a day);
  • frequent consumption of lemons and radishes.

Whichever way you remove the tartar is selected, it is always better than ignoring its appearance. Be healthy!

The price of removing tartar

What is the cost of the tartar removal procedure? The price of removal of hardened plaque varies greatly and depends on the location of the procedure, the chosen method and the condition of the oral cavity. You can even remove the plaque free of charge in the regional polyclinic by taking a coupon, but still, if possible, it's better to go to a good dental clinic where you have all the necessary equipment for safe and quality care. In Ukraine, the average price of removing tartar with ultrasound + tooth treatment by the method of Air Flow is 300-600 UAH. If you want to save money, then on the Internet, on special sites, you can buy action coupons for discounts at well-known dental clinics.
