There are many misconceptions about Dr. Benditsky's method of removing bones on the feet without surgery. According to some reviews, this doctor simply works miracles, removing bones on the feet without surgery. According to other reviews, his specialists are engaged in quackery. In order to make a decision about non-surgical methods of influencing bones according to Benditsky, the reader must decide on the priorities himself. And get acquainted with the essence of this method
The essence of Benditsky's method
Igor Eduardovich Benditsky is a manual therapist, traumatologist-orthopedist, who has been treating hallux valgus for more than 20 years. Or, as people say, bunions or cones on the feet. Benditsky believes that with hallux valgus, it is necessary, first of all, to restore the optimal load on the foot. Moreover, this load should change depending on the position of the foot - whether a person is working hard with their feet or, on the contrary, is resting.
This determines what individual foot correction program will be developed for the patient. The course of foot healing using the Benditsky method is on average from two to seven months. During this time, the position of the foot, correction of loads is monitored by the doctor approximately every week.
The peculiarity of such treatment, according to Benditsky, is that by gradually rebuilding the position of the foot, a person also rebuilds the work of the entire musculoskeletal system. In addition, such a method guarantees the absence of trauma (there is no operation) and the occurrence of relapses.
More about the Benditsky method
This method is based not only on gradual correction of the foot position, but on a comprehensive approach to treatment. This approach involves restoring the center of gravity for the entire body, not just the feet. First, doctors detect foci of disturbances in the center of gravity of the entire musculoskeletal system, and the biomechanics of the body and feet in particular are corrected.
Then the person is recommended certain poses, load on the spine, legs, special attention is paid to the load on the joints of the foot. Of course, the closest attention is paid to the biomechanics of the big toe - the culprit of the appearance of cones (bones). The essence of this approach is to increase the useful area of the foot on which it rests. The larger the support area - the stronger and more stable the support itself.
With flat feet, which provokes deformation of the big toe and the appearance of bones on it, strong support is impossible - the support area of the foot is significantly reduced, and the center of gravity shifts. This leads not only to deformation of the foot and toes, but also to injuries during movement, stretching of ligaments and joints. If this flat feet is removed in the process of manual therapy and special exercises, then there will be much fewer problems with bones on the feet.
Why and how does the foot suffer from overload?
According to Benditsky, the root cause of hallux valgus is an incorrect load on the spine, which causes the entire body to acquire a wrong position. According to physiologists, the fulcrum of the entire human body is in the sacrum. And as soon as a person experiences overload (as a result of physical work or, conversely, constant tension due to prolonged sitting), the fulcrum in the sacral spine shifts and moves to other parts of the body - the hip joints, ankles, knees.
For this reason, the load on different parts of the foot is also incorrect. This load, first of all, falls on fragile small joints. They cannot withstand the weight of the body, the foot loses its support during walking, tries to find this support, gets injured, and this leads to its deformation.
First of all, it is a hallux valgus, or, in common parlance, a bunion. At the same time, various diseases of the joints, muscles and bone tissue further aggravate the growth of bunions and pain in this area. An incorrect hormonal balance (an excess of some hormones and a deficiency of others) aggravates the situation.
What to do?
Flatfoot disorders – the culprit of incorrect foot mechanics – can be corrected by wearing special orthopedic insoles. This is strengthening and correction of the foot on one side, from below. And there is also strengthening on the other side of the foot, from above. This is correct posture and distribution of correct, feasible load on the limbs.
If the bone is just beginning to form, light preventive methods of prevention will do. That is, therapeutic exercise, foot baths, special orthopedic insoles, as well as compresses using traditional medicine methods. But if the foot is already deformed, a special exercise program is needed. A full comprehensive medical treatment with the use of orthopedic devices is needed.
According to Benditsky’s method, the joints of the foot are not restored all at once, but in stages – both small and large joints of the leg.
Here's how an individual program for eliminating bunions on the foot is compiled according to Benditsky
First stage
A diagnostic examination of the feet is carried out. Based on the results of this examination, orthopedic insoles are selected, while the abnormal position of the foot bones is necessarily taken into account.
[ 1 ]
Second stage
The doctor finds problem areas that disrupt the biomechanics of the body and disturb the natural shape of the foot; these areas must be dealt with using a special technique selected individually.
Third stage
Special orthopedic devices are selected to correct the position of problem areas of the foot.
The fourth stage
Manual therapy and a set of therapeutic exercises are selected to help orthopedic devices. Such a comprehensive approach will ensure the elimination of foot defects, but not immediately, but gradually. In this case, the doctor takes into account the person's age, gender, health characteristics, as well as the intensity of the load on the whole body depending on the profession.
It is no secret that age is an obstacle to surgical treatment of bunions. When a person turns 60, many functions of his body are impaired, and doctors are wary of prescribing operations because their consequences can be unpredictable. Non-surgical methods are a good alternative to surgical intervention if a person suffers from bunions.
What are the disadvantages of surgical operations?
First of all, after spending a lot of effort and money, a person may still face the fact that the bone on the foot begins to grow again. If you gradually rebuild the foot over a long period of time, as Benditsky does, it strengthens and eventually changes its shape to the correct one, while withstanding long-term loads. And the foot after surgery is very vulnerable. It is returned to its natural position, but as soon as a person experiences increased loads, the arch of the foot and toes become curved again and the unpleasant painful bone on the feet - here it is, again bothering with pain and discomfort.
Even those operations that are minimally invasive and take little time do not provide any guarantee that a relapse will not occur within six months – the appearance of new bones on the feet. In order to fully recover from such operations, the foot requires at least four to six months – only after this period can you afford to wear high-heeled shoes, and not for a whole day in a row.
