To separate protein fractions, electrophoresis is usually used, based on the different mobility of serum proteins in an electric field. This study is more informative in diagnostic terms than determining only total protein or albumin. On the other hand, the study of protein fractions allows us to judge the excess or deficiency of protein characteristic of a disease only in the most general form. Analysis of the results of protein electrophoresis allows us to determine due to which fraction the patient's total protein concentration increased or decreased, as well as to judge the specificity of the changes characteristic of a given pathology.
