Preparation for ultrasound of the small pelvis
- Preparation of the patient. The bladder should be filled. Give the patient 4-5 glasses of fluid, do the exam after an hour (do not allow the patient to urinate). If necessary, the filling of the bladder can be made through the urinary catheter with a sterile physiological solution: the introduction of fluid stops when the patient appears urge to urinate. If possible, avoid catheterization due to the risk of infection.
- Position of the patient. The study is usually conducted in the position of the patient on the back. It may be necessary to change the position of the patient after carrying out traditional cuts or to conduct a study in the standing position. Apply the gel arbitrarily to the lower part of the abdomen: there is usually no need to apply the gel to the pubic area of the pubis, however, if necessary, do so.
- Select the sensor. Use a 3.5 MHz sensor for adults and 5 MHz for children and thin adults.
- Adjustment of sensitivity of the device.
Place the sensor longitudinally on the projection area of the bladder and set the sensitivity level corresponding to the best visualization.
