What causes neuralgic pain?
Neuralgic pain is caused by damage to the nerve, and is located in any part of the body, which significantly complicates the work of diagnosticians. Neuralgia can be a consequence of trauma, or simple hypothermia, various inflammatory diseases, or stressful situations. Also this type of pain can occur due to allergic reactions, disorders in the level of certain hormones or various chronic diseases. It is also terrible that pain can resume at any time, it can provoke the most simple movement: walking, raising hands, eating food. Therefore, it is especially important in case of the onset of the first symptoms to immediately make an appointment with a doctor to determine the type of neuralgia and its treatment.
Types of Neuralgic Pain
Among the most common types of neuralgia can be identified:
- Neuralgia of the trigeminal nerve, providing the motor activity of the face.
- Neuralgia of the pterygoid node, which occurs with diseases of the ear, throat and nose.
- Herpes, which is a complication of herpes infections.
- Intercostal.
- Neuralgia of the occipital nerve.
- Glossopharyngeal, paralyzing language, sky, ear.
Regardless of the type of pain that has struck you, they will be almost unbearable, with incredible intensity. Neuralgic pain can be accompanied by a nervous tic, consisting in twitching muscles.
Diagnosis of neuralgic pain
After you have experienced any kind of neuralgic pain, consult a neurologist. The search for the cause and methods of treating pain begins, as a rule, to examine the patient. At the same time, "insidious" neuralgia can hide under the guise of a heart attack, gastritis, osteochondrosis, so be ready to answer questions about the time of the onset of pain, the place of origin, and conditions that could affect the onset of neuralgia. In rare cases, additional magnetic resonance imaging of the spine is necessary.
Neuralgic pain: treatment
As already mentioned, with neuralgia you are unlikely to help pain medication, so it is better to listen to the advice of a neurologist. Often, doctors prescribe patients anticonvulsant drugs, physiological procedures (in the absence of contraindications). Also, doctors advise not to overexert themselves, not to be stressed, to lead the most peaceful way of life. Possible classes of therapeutic aerobics, swimming, physical education, going to the gym. In cases of protracted attacks of neuralgic pain, the use of sanitary treatment is possible. In especially severe cases, even surgical methods are used for treatment. In case the pain is caused by another disease, it is necessary to consult the appropriate doctor.
Neuralgic pain is quite unpleasant, so do not tolerate these sudden painful seizures - it is better to cure it once and for all!
