Today, nasal polyps have become almost one of the most basic problems that otolaryngologists have to deal with. This is a problem, the success of which is the result of joint actions of the doctor and the patient. The doctor must be able to correctly select the optimal therapy, conduct timely diagnostics, clearly differentiate polyps from other similar pathologies. For example, polyps are often difficult to distinguish from adenoids, cancerous tumors. In order to accurately diagnose, it is necessary to conduct a number of laboratory, instrumental studies, differential diagnostics.

The treatment protocol

The patient, in turn, must pay close attention to his health. When the first signs of the disease appear, you need to see a doctor and undergo all the necessary examinations. You need to treat concomitant diseases, follow all the doctor's recommendations. It is important not only to attend the prescribed procedures, but also to follow all the instructions at home.

Drops for nasal polyps

Various drops are often used for nasal polyps. Fatty, oily drops have proven themselves well. They help soften the mucous membrane, reduce inflammation, and eliminate irritation. Drops can be purchased at a pharmacy, or you can make them at home yourself. Of the commercial preparations, I use pinosol and sanorin. Drip 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day.

To prepare drops at home, it is recommended to use olive oil, or grape, apricot, or peach kernel oil as a base. They have a softening effect, have a positive effect on mucous membranes, nourish and saturate with vitamins, which significantly increases local immunity, accelerates recovery, and promotes the resorption of compacted tissues.

For example, a glass of olive or other base oil is boiled in a water bath for 30-40 minutes. Add 2-3 cloves of garlic and a quarter of an onion. Boil for another 3-4 minutes. Then remove from heat, let it brew for several hours. Drip 3 drops 4 times a day.

Boil the oil in a water bath. Add 2-3 teaspoons of chamomile flowers. Boil for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat. Infuse for an hour. Drip 2-3 drops 3-4 times. An excellent anti-inflammatory agent that quickly relieves inflammation, redness, eliminates nasal congestion and swelling.

Calendula drops are also used as an anti-infective. To prepare, pour a tablespoon of calendula flowers and seeds with a glass of boiling base oil and leave for an hour. Drip 2-3 drops up to 5 times a day.

Nasal Polyp Sprays

Sprays are used after treatment with oil drops. They have proven themselves well in the recovery period after operations, for the prevention and treatment of polyps.

Many patients are helped by sprays such as: Allergodil, Nazivin, Bekonase, Flixonase, Tafen. Most of them have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic effects, eliminate swelling and hyperemia. They are used for a long time - at least a month. Sprays contain a pre-installed dispenser, which allows you to set the same and accurate dosage. Prescribe 1-2 doses in each nostril. Depending on the severity of the disease, apply 2-4 times a day.

Ointments for nasal polyps

Various ointments are good for polyps. They can be purchased ready-made at the pharmacy, or prepared independently. Lubricate the nasal cavity with a thin layer. It is recommended to apply after the nose has been pre-cleaned. Can be applied after rinsing. The pharmacy sells such ointments as sanorin, lanolin, salicylic ointment.

You can make ointments yourself. Pine or fir ointment has proven itself well. To prepare, you need 100 grams of butter. Melt it over a fire or in a water bath. Gradually add a tablespoon of pine or fir needles. Boil over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Set aside and cool. Allow to harden. After this, the ointment is ready for use. Apply a thin layer to the nasal mucosa 2-3 times a day.

Honey and cream ointment is also used. To prepare, melt butter over low heat, gradually pour in honey. Stir until completely dissolved, then remove from heat, allow to solidify. Apply a thin layer to the nasal cavity up to 5 times a day. It should not be taken by people who are allergic to honey and propolis.

Inhalations for nasal polyps

Inhalations are very helpful against polyps. Special physiotherapeutic procedures can be carried out, for example, UF, inhalation of extracts and medicines.

At home, you can do inhalations over steam. For example, inhalations using herbal decoctions have proven themselves well. To prepare a decoction, take 3-4 tablespoons of herbs per liter of water, pour boiling water over it, leave for half an hour, wrapping the teapot in a warm place. Then pour the decoction into a basin. If the decoction has cooled down and there is no steam, it should be heated.

After this, bend over the basin, cover yourself with a towel and breathe over the steam. The procedure lasts 10-15 minutes. Contraindicated for people with cardiovascular diseases. Also, it cannot be performed during periods of acute exacerbations, at elevated temperatures.

Herbal remedies can be used in various ways. Chamomile, calendula, mint, sage will help relieve inflammation. Nettle, stevia, ginseng, eleutherococcus have antiviral and immunostimulating properties. Mint leaves, birch buds, oak bark will help relieve allergic reactions. You can prepare mixtures from several herbal components.

Salt inhalations have also proven themselves to be effective. Salt eliminates swelling and relieves inflammation. To prepare a solution for inhalation, add a tablespoon of salt to a liter of water. You can use sea salt. If you don’t have sea salt, you can make it yourself. To do this, mix a spoonful of salt, a spoonful of soda and add 2-3 drops of iodine.

A positive effect can be achieved by using essential oils. Coniferous oils are most effective for polyps. You can use thuja, eucalyptus, juniper, fir, cypress, pine, and spruce oils. To prepare a solution for inhalation, dissolve 1-2 drops of oil in a liter of boiling water.

Inhalations should be done at night. After doing this, you should go to bed as soon as possible, covered warmly.

Nebulizer for nasal polyps

In case of polyps, a nebulizer can be used for inhalation. This is a special mini-device that contains a canister with a medicine, a device for spraying. Additionally, the kit includes a mask for inhalation. The mask is used mainly for children.

Many inhalation products are produced in this form, for example, Avamis, Bioporox, Flixonase. The advantage of this method is that the dosage of the drug is strictly calculated. One inhalation contains the required amount of the active substance. Allows you to quickly relieve inflammation, eliminate swelling.

Antibiotics for nasal polyps

Antibiotics are used if polyps have developed against the background of a bacterial infection, or if a concomitant infectious process caused by bacteria and their toxins develops in the body. Antibiotics are recommended to be taken after an antibiotic sensitivity test. It allows one to isolate the microorganism that is the causative agent of the disease, identify it, and study its basic properties. An antibiotic is selected that has the most pronounced bacteriostatic effect on the isolated pathogen. Its optimal dosage is selected. Only after this is the drug prescribed to the person.

If it is not possible to conduct such an analysis, a regular bacteriological culture can be performed, which will make it possible to detect a microorganism or a group of microorganisms that contribute to the development of the infectious process. Based on this, an approximate selection of a drug or group of drugs that have a bacteriostatic effect on this pathogen is made. A broad-spectrum antibiotic can be prescribed, which has moderate activity against many groups of microorganisms.

Often used drugs such as amoxiclav, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, penicillin, amoxicillin, streptomycin. The course of treatment is from 3 to 7 days. It is important to complete the course of treatment, even if the state of health has improved and the polyp has decreased in size. This will make it possible to completely eliminate the infectious process and avoid relapses in the future.

In addition, if you do not complete the course, the bacteria that survived will mutate and become resistant. The antibiotic will be ineffective next time. The danger is that bacteria become resistant not only to this antibiotic, but to the entire group of drugs. In the future, bacteria can become resistant to multiple drugs with cross-reactions. Thus, even other groups of microorganisms will not have an effect.

The best hormonal drugs for nasal polyps

The best hormonal drugs are those that have a minimal effect on the body and have virtually no side effects. This category includes drugs that have a local effect, that is, they act exclusively locally on the hyperplastic mucous membrane of the nose and sinuses. These drugs should not have a systemic effect on the entire body, and they should not be absorbed into the blood. Such drugs exist and are most often presented as injections, sprays, and nasal drops. Such drugs as nasonex, flixonase, beclomethasone, and nasobek have proven themselves well.

Injection for nasal polyps

Today, otolaryngological practice increasingly uses hormonal injections that are injected directly into the polyp. It gradually dissolves. The polyp completely dies after the end of the full course of treatment. Then the doctor removes it, or it disappears on its own, for example, when sneezing.

The number of injections and their dosage are determined individually and depend on the prevalence of the pathological process, its severity, and the presence of concomitant diseases. The hormonal agent is selected individually, first tested. If it is suitable, then positive results can be expected within a month. There is every chance of complete elimination of polyps and prevention of relapses.

The method is used as an alternative to surgical intervention when it is impossible to perform an operation. After the polyp is removed, the immune system is adjusted. Immunity is brought into line with individual and age norms, the imbalance is eliminated, which allows normalizing the body's defenses, mobilizing internal resources, increasing the body's resistance and its speed of recovery.

Diprospan for nasal polyps

The main injection used to remove nasal polyps is Diprospan. This is a hormonal drug that is injected directly into the area of the polypous neoplasm. It is a great alternative to surgery, allowing you to quickly get rid of polyps. It is also important that this drug allows you to avoid side effects, since it does not have a systemic effect on the body.

When undergoing therapy, it is important to follow certain rules. The daily dosage of the drug is 1 ml. With severe atrophy of the mucous layer and its excessive hyperplasia, 1-2 injections are enough to notice a noticeable result.

It is also necessary to take into account that hormonal agents can be administered no more than once a week. This will allow you to avoid side effects and reduce the load on the body, at the same time, it will allow you to remove polyps in the nose without relapses and complications. As a result of such therapy, the polyp is rejected by the mucous membrane. It can be removed, or it will fall off on its own. It is important to undergo a recovery course after therapy aimed at correcting the immune system and preventing repeated growths.

New in the treatment of nasal polyps

Today, such a method of endoscopic surgery as shaver removal is widely used. This is a relatively new method in surgery, in which the image is displayed on the monitor screen, and the doctor has the opportunity to see the whole picture, assess the situation as a whole, and control it. The removal procedure is performed under anesthesia.

The shaver is also called a microdebrider, it allows you to remove the polyp completely, right down to the healthy tissue. This almost completely eliminates the risk of relapses and repeated growth of polyps. In addition, the risk of damage and trauma of the procedure are minimized. This is due to the fact that with the help of this device you can crush the polyp. Then it is completely absorbed.

After the operation, the mucous membrane remains maximally healthy, recovery occurs very quickly. Bleeding practically does not occur. The postoperative period lasts 3-5 days, after which the patient can be discharged home. During this time, it is necessary to carry out rinsing. Most often, a saline solution is used. With the help of this remedy, not only swelling and inflammation are removed, but also tissue residues are removed, the risk of complications and bleeding is reduced. To prevent the risk of infection, antibiotics are prescribed. The procedure is contraindicated in acute inflammatory processes and severe allergic reactions.

A laser is also used. The procedure can even be performed on an outpatient basis. No special preparation is required. Except that you cannot eat on the day of the procedure. An anesthetic is injected into the polyp area. Then an endoscope with a camera and laser equipment are inserted. The camera allows the image to be displayed on the screen.

Using a laser beam, the doctor heats the cells that make up the polyp. These cells evaporate. The laser simultaneously seals the vessels, so there is no bleeding. Due to minimal interventions, the risk of infection is significantly reduced. This procedure can be performed even on people suffering from bronchial asthma.

After a few days, you need to visit a doctor to check the condition of the mucous membrane. After the procedure, a recovery period may be required. Special ointments, sprays, aerosols are prescribed that prevent re-growth of tissue and reduce the likelihood of inflammation and infection.

This operation is contraindicated in obstructive and asthmatic bronchitis, asthma, and multiple polyps. This method has one serious drawback - the impossibility of opening the sinuses. Accordingly, the polypous tissue in them is not removed.
