Hypoxic therapy, or normobaric hypoxia, promotes non-specific stimulation of the body's defenses. The mechanisms of the therapeutic effect of hypoxic therapy are unknown, but it can be assumed that its effect is realized by stimulating vital centers in conditions of oxygen starvation. The use of the method allows increasing the body's resistance to stress, stimulating metabolism, and the procedure has an immunomodulatory effect.

Methodology of implementation
The patient inhales an air mixture for 20-30 minutes, the oxygen content of which is reduced to 14-17%.
The effectiveness of hypoxic therapy
The use of hypoxic therapy in the complex treatment of drug addicts in the post-abstinence state was accompanied by clearly expressed vegetative-stabilizing and general-stimulating effects. Daily sessions against the background of treatment with antidepressants made it possible to obtain the expected clinical effect already on the 2nd-3rd day, and subsequently reduce the daily dose of the antidepressant by 1.5-3 times. A positive effect of hypoxic therapy was noted in case of resistance to the therapy with mianserin (lerivon) with individual intolerance to tricyclic antidepressants and a drug of the serotonin reuptake blocker group.
