Hypoplasia of the condylar process - deformation of the face, caused by a decrease in the height of the jaw branch.

trusted-source[1], [2], [3]

Symptoms of condylar hypoplasia

This condition is the result of injuries, infection or radiation during the growth period, but it can also be ideopathic. Deformation of the entire face, chin displacement in the larger direction, lengthening of the lower jaw and flattening of the face on the healthy side are noted. The displacement of the jaw causes a malocclusion.

Diagnosis of condylar hypoplasia

Diagnosis is based on the history of the disease of progressive facial asymmetry during growth, deformity of the condylar process during X-ray examination and previous measurements (measurements of the lower body size of the lower jaw, especially the angle of the jaw) and usually finding out the causal factors.

Treatment of condylar hypoplasia

Treatment consists in surgical reduction of the healthy side or elongation of the patient. Orthodontic therapy in the preoperative period optimizes the result of treatment.
