Symptoms of condylar process hypoplasia
This condition is the result of trauma, infection or radiation during the growth period, but can also be idiopathic. Deformation of the entire face, displacement of the chin to the larger side, elongation of the lower jaw and flattening of the face on the healthy side are noted. Displacement of the jaw causes malocclusion.
Diagnosis of condylar process hypoplasia
Diagnosis is based on the history of progressive facial asymmetry during growth, condylar process deformity on radiographic examination and previous measurements (measurements of the lower dimension of the body of the mandible, especially the angle of the jaw) and usually identification of causal factors.
Treatment of hypoplasia of the condylar process
Treatment consists of surgical reduction of the healthy side or lengthening of the diseased side. Orthodontic therapy in the preoperative period optimizes the treatment result.
