Enchondroma (synonyms: chondroma, central chondroma) is a benign tumor from a well-differentiated hyaline cartilage located in the central parts of the bone.
The tumor accounts for about 10% of all benign neoplasm of the skeleton. About 60% of patients are people aged 15-40 years.
Enchondromas differ mainly asymptomatic course. Patients rarely experience moderate pain in the area of the tumor. In some patients, she is diagnosed with a pathological fracture. Most often, the tumor is located in the meta-diaphysis and diaphysis of short and long tubular bones. On X-rays and CT, a lesion center located centrally located in the corresponding bone region is preserved with continuity of the cortical layer. With scintigraphy, local hyperemia is absent, hyperfixation of the radiopharmaceutical is 165%. Differential diagnosis is performed with a solitary bone cyst and osteoblastoma.
Treatment of surgical enchondromas - resection of the tumor within the unchanged bone tissue.
