One of the common types of intoxication is poisoning from careless handling of household chemicals. Domestos is a universal cleaning agent that is used for disinfecting rooms, getting rid of lime scale, cleaning tiles and more. Its composition includes surfactants, soap, fragrances. The main component is a chlorine compound - sodium hypochlorite.

Causes of the domestos poisoning

The most common cause of illness when working with domestos is inhalation of its vapors. Inhalation of its vapors may cause damage to the body in the following cases:

  • Use of a concentrated substance in an unventilated area.
  • Dilution of the drug in hot water (increases evaporation).
  • Mixing the remedy with boiling water or other substances.

Symptoms of the domestos poisoning

The clinical picture of poisoning depends on where the chemical has penetrated. If the chemical has penetrated into the respiratory tract, it is manifested by the following symptomatology:

  • Tearing, redness and burning of the eyes.
  • Unpleasant taste in the mouth.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Chest and abdominal pain.
  • Nausea.
  • Pale skin.
  • General weakness.
  • Barking cough.

In particularly severe cases, body temperature rises, convulsive seizures begin, pulmonary edema is possible.

If the substance came into contact with the skin, hematomas appear at the site of the lesion and chemical burns develop. If the substance is ingested, nausea and vomiting, sharp cramps and abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, convulsions appear.

Treatment of the domestos poisoning

In case of poisoning by Domestos vapors, rinse nose and eyes with warm clean water. To reduce dryness of mucous membranes and bind the chemical, it is recommended to drink milk or purified water and provide fresh air. To prevent edema and acute allergic reactions take antihistamines. Regardless of the severity of poisoning, the victim needs medical attention.
