Diagnosis of mycoplasmosis (mycoplasma infection)

The diagnosis is established on the basis of the gradual onset of the disease, a painful cough, prolonged fever with minor intoxication and mild catarrhal symptoms, the consistent occurrence of signs of damage to the bronchopulmonary system up to the appearance of low-symptom (atypical) pneumonia, some enlargement of the lymph nodes, and a long course of the disease.

For laboratory confirmation, PCR and ELISA are used. Mycoplasma infection is differentiated from acute respiratory viral infections, especially those of adenovirus etiology, and respiratory syncytial infection, as well as ornithosis, Q fever, and lobar pneumonia.

Treatment of mycoplasmosis (mycoplasma infection)

In mild forms, treatment of mycoplasmosis (mycoplasma infection) is symptomatic. Ibuprofen syrup, paracetamol, antihistamines, vitamin complex, plenty of fluids, hot foot baths, ozokerite boots, expectorant mixtures, mucaltin, etc. are prescribed orally.

In moderate and especially severe forms of the disease, in addition to symptomatic agents, antibiotics are prescribed (erythromycin, azithromycin, clindamycin, roxithromycin, josamycin (vilprafen), lincomycin, morphocycline, etc.) in an age-appropriate dose. In young children, the antibiotic of choice should be considered an antibiotic of the macrolide group in combination with probiotics (atsipol, etc.). To enhance the effect of antibacterial therapy, the inclusion of wobenzym in the complex therapy is indicated. In especially severe cases of intoxication, detoxifying solutions are administered intravenously, diuretics are given.

When cycloferon is included in the therapy of mycoplasma infection during its recurrent course, the febrile period and intoxication are shortened, the duration of catarrhal syndrome and bronchial obstruction are reduced. Improvement of clinical symptoms occurs against the background of increased macrophage activity, activation of interferon synthesis, and an increase in the concentration of immunoglobulin A.

Prevention of mycoplasmosis (mycoplasma infection)

In the center of infection, early isolation of the patient and implementation of general preventive measures are important. Specific prevention has not been developed.
