Diadynamic therapy is a method of local action with two pulsed electric currents of corresponding parameters, carried out by one of these currents or by their continuous alternation through one pair of electrodes and wet hydrophilic pads (or with the help of an electrically conductive gel), contactably applied to the skin surface of certain areas of the patient's body.

Diadynamic therapy uses current from 2-5 to 15-25 mA; pulse repetition frequency is 50 and 100 Hz; pulse shape is semi-sinusoidal, of one polarity.

Types of current modulation:

  • single-half-wave continuous current (OH) - continuous half-sinusoidal current with a frequency of 50 Hz and a pulse duration of 20 ms;
  • two-half-period continuous current (DC) - continuous half-sinusoidal current with a prolonged trailing edge, a frequency of 100 Hz and a pulse duration of 10 ms;
  • half-period rhythmic current (OR) - intermittent half-sinusoidal current with a frequency of 50 Hz and a pulse duration of 1-1.5 s, which alternate with pauses of the same duration;
  • half-wave current (WC) - smoothly increasing and decreasing in strength (amplitude) current pulses of half-wave rectification, with a frequency of 50 Hz and a pulse duration of 4-8 s, which alternate with pauses lasting 2-4 s;
  • two-half-period wave current (FWC) - smoothly increasing and decreasing in strength (amplitude) current pulses of two-half-period rectification, with a frequency of 100 Hz and a pulse duration of 4-8 s, which alternate with pauses lasting 2-4 s;
  • short period (SP) - sequential alternation of continuous half-sinusoidal current with a frequency of 50 Hz (OH) and continuous half-sinusoidal current with a frequency of 100 Hz (DN) with a duration of alternation series of 1.5 s;
  • long period (LP) - a combination of continuous half-sinusoidal current pulses with a frequency of 50 Hz and a pulse duration of 4 s and smoothly increasing and decreasing continuous half-sinusoidal current with a frequency of 100 Hz and a pulse duration of 8 s.

The specific features of diadynamic therapy are mainly related to the change in the threshold of perception of various stimuli by the receptors of sensory neurons due to the initiation of corresponding electrodynamic changes in them. With a low threshold of perception of stimuli by receptors (in pain syndrome), the effect of diadynamic currents helps block the conduction of impulses along afferent pathways. With an increased threshold of perception of stimuli by receptors (reduction of nervous excitability), the reactivity of nervous pathways is restored. Against the background of the main effect of the factor, other processes of the body's vital activity associated with nervous stimulation are indirectly normalized.

Main clinical effects: analgesic, myoneurostimulating, vasoactive, trophic.

Device for diadynamic therapy: "Model 717", "Tonus-1", "Tonus-2", "Tonus-DT-50-3", "DTGE-70-01" (multifunctional), "Eter" (multifunctional).
