A lump in the mammary gland can be a sign of various pathologies. Many women experience painful and uncomfortable sensations in the breasts during the premenstrual period and during menstruation, accompanied by engorgement, a feeling of heaviness, and the presence of lumps. Such symptoms may indicate the development of mastopathy.

Reasons

  • Abortion. The mammary glands begin preparing for milk production almost immediately upon pregnancy. As a result of termination of pregnancy, there is serious interference in the hormonal system, as a result of which the mammary glands are negatively affected.
  • Gynecological diseases. Any gynecological diseases can provoke pain in the mammary glands, as they have an inextricable connection with all organs of the reproductive system.
  • Diseases of the endocrine system of the body (includes the ovaries, liver, thyroid gland, pancreas, adrenal glands).
  • Neurological disorders, stressful situations.
  • Lack of breastfeeding.
  • Late birth.

Lump in the mammary gland in the diffuse form

A lump in the mammary gland with this form of the disease may be almost the only symptom. As a rule, such diffuse growths do not cause much inconvenience and usually make themselves known a few days before the onset of menstruation. After the end of menstruation, the discomfort usually disappears. In some cases, the pain syndrome can be expressed throughout the menstrual cycle. Dense formations with diffuse mastopathy can have a soft or slightly compacted structure, and can also shift. Pain in the mammary glands often radiates to the armpits, and discharge from the nipples of various shades - white, green or yellow - may also appear.

Lump in the mammary gland with nodular form

Nodular mastopathy is a focal form of fibrocystic disease and is characterized by the localization of nodular formations in the mammary gland. Against the background of this form of the disease, the risk of developing cancer increases. Manifestations of this disease include tumor-like formations that have clear boundaries, are not fused with the nipple and skin, as well as discharge from the nipples, which appears both spontaneously and during pressure. In the lying position, the nodes are not palpable, the lymph nodes are not enlarged. Pain syndrome can spread to the shoulder blade and shoulder.

Diagnosis of the disease includes palpation of the mammary glands, ultrasound examination, mammography, and cytological examination. Self-examination of the mammary glands is very important in detecting a lump in the mammary gland, since in some cases the disease may be asymptomatic. If you have any symptoms that bother you, you should consult a mammologist.

How to treat a lump in the mammary gland due to mastopathy?

Conservative treatment methods include Mastodinone (30 drops or 1 tablet twice a day, minimum course of treatment is three months), Mulimen (drop fifteen to twenty drops under the tongue 3-5 times a day), Vitokan (thirty drops 3 times a day 20 minutes before meals, course of treatment is 1 month), Iodomarin, Aevit vitamins, Professor Pechersky's Mastofit herbal tea, bromcamphor and other sedatives. Hormonal therapy may include local use of Progestogel or Progestin gel. In case of mastopathy, one should avoid visiting a bathhouse, solarium and being in direct sunlight. All drugs can be used strictly under the supervision and as prescribed by a doctor. Surgical intervention may be prescribed based on the form and course of the disease.

Cystic formations

A cyst is a cystic, compacted formation with liquid contents. Often, cysts do not cause pain, have a smooth surface, and are characterized by slight mobility in relation to the tissues of the mammary gland. A cyst is diagnosed by ultrasound, mammography, and palpation, and may be a consequence of fibrocystic disease. If small cysts are detected, conservative treatment is prescribed. If large cysts are formed, a puncture is performed and fluid is removed from them.

Injuries

A lump in the mammary gland may appear as a result of traumatic injuries. Injuries to the mammary glands may be combined with injuries to the ribs, sternum, and chest. During the initial self-examination, you should carefully palpate the mammary glands and armpits. Any injuries to the mammary glands require immediate attention from a mammologist and a detailed examination, possibly radiothermometry, mammography, ultrasound, and in some cases, computer or magnetic resonance imaging of the mammary glands.

Lump in the mammary gland with mastitis

The manifestations of this disease can be quite different - from the appearance of a local compaction in the tissues of the mammary gland to the formation of severe edema, in some cases there is a retraction of the nipple, an increase in the lymph nodes of the regional zones. Mastitis is the development of an inflammatory process in the tissues of the mammary gland. In most cases, it occurs during breastfeeding. The main signs of mastitis are compaction of the mammary glands, hyperemia of the skin, fever, and a bursting nature of pain. Antibiotic therapy and novocaine blockades can be prescribed as treatment. Local use of Traumeel S ointment is possible. This product has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, regenerating and immunomodulatory effects. The ointment is applied to the affected area two or three times a day with light rubbing movements. In the acute period of the disease, the ointment can be used four to five times a day.

If you find a lump in your breast, be sure to visit a gynecologist, mammologist, or endocrinologist.
