There is no generally accepted classification of chronic duodenitis. Based on the works of V. Kh. Vasilenko, A. L. Grebenev (1981), V. G. Avdeev (1996), P. Ya. Grigorieva, A. V. Yakovenko (1997), chronic duodenitis can be classified as follows.

Etiology:
1. Primary.
2. Secondary.
Localization:
1. Diffuse or total.
2. Local.
3. Duodenitis in the area of the major duodenal papilla (papillitis).
4. Proximal duodenitis (bulbit).
5. Distal duodenitis.
Clinical variants:
1. Ulcer-like.
2. Gastritis-like.
3. Cholecystitis-like.
4. Pancreatitis-like.
5. Mixed.
6. Latent.
Morphological picture:
1. Surface.
2. Diffuse.
3. Atrophic.
4. Erosive.
Stage (phase) of flow.
1. Exacerbation.
2. Remission.
