Chlamydia diagnostics using PCR is the most sensitive and specific method of all currently used in laboratories. The sensitivity of the method is 95-97%, and the specificity is 95-98%. Detection of Chlamydia trachomatisin urethral material using PCR is used in the following cases:

  • screening in populations at high risk of infection;
  • detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in urine;
  • resolution of questionable results from other research methods;
  • monitoring the effectiveness of the treatment.

In urogenital infections, Chlamydia trachomatis is detected in urethral material by PCR in 15-40% of cases. Chlamydia trachomatis plays an important role in the development of chronic prostatitis.
