Antigen Candida albicans in the serum is normally absent.
The test is used for direct detection of Candida antigen in the blood of patients with invasive candidiasis. This test is more specific than the detection of antibodies. A value above 2 ng of serum Candida antigen (mannan) with ELISA involves invasive candidiasis. The sensitivity of the method in cancer patients is 65-70% with a specificity of 100%. To identify antigen candidiasis in the blood serum, the study is recommended to be conducted at least 2 times a week.
