Brilliant green is a 1% or 2% aqueous or alcohol solution. Brilliant green is a disinfectant that helps eliminate infection and also sterilizes the treated area of skin. Like other antiseptic medications, it has irritating properties, so it can cause irritation of the skin or even a burn. Below is how to treat a burn with brilliant green.
Can I apply brilliant green to a burn?
In the process of burn therapy, brilliant green should be used very carefully - lubricate only the edges of the wound formed on the skin, without touching the burned area. But in this case, a special spray or gel is best suited for disinfecting the wound. Brilliant green should not be used to treat 2nd degree burns, which disrupt the integrity of the tissue.
If you have burned your skin with brilliant green, do not try to lubricate the damaged area with fat or potassium permanganate, because these products can only worsen the condition of the skin, which will make it more difficult to diagnose the depth of the burn.
How to treat a burn with brilliant green?
If you used brilliant green to treat a wound and got burned by it, you shouldn’t worry about it. Such injuries heal quickly (if you don’t apply brilliant green to the area any more) – after 2-3 days. You can treat a brilliant green burn with special anti-burn products – aerosols such as Levian, Vinizol, Oxycyclozol or Panthenol. They effectively treat superficial burns and can be purchased over the counter at any pharmacy.
Treatment of a burn from brilliant green that got into the eye should begin with rinsing with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or a tannin solution (3%). If these medications are not available, you can use cold tea or water (running) to rinse the burned eye. After this, you should definitely consult an ophthalmologist about further treatment.
