  • The cornea of the eye.
  • Sclera.
  • Lens of the eye.
  • Vascular membrane.

How is the bruise of the eye manifested?

The bruise of the eye is accompanied by characteristic symptoms, although a minor concussion does not always show typical signs of eye damage. Often a bouncing ball or an eye hit branch damage the surface layers and does not cause severe pain. Indeed, such a trauma does not damage the eyeball and is not considered penetrating injuries. However, after a while vision may worsen, there is increased tearing, swelling. This is due to hemorrhage, which provoked a bruise of the child's eyes, what power it would not have been. The consequence of a bruise can be various complications, the general condition also varies depending on the severity of the injury up to a rise in temperature, dizziness and nausea.

Despite the fact that the elasticity of the eyeball is quite high, a bruised eye can provoke the following traumatic injuries:

  1. Injury of the cornea and anterior chamber of the eye. If, during a concussion, the eye was covered with eyelids, then it may suffer. The damaged eyelid swells, there is a hematoma under the conjunctiva, often there is bleeding. Sometimes the swollen eyelid becomes so swollen that it completely closes the eye gap. When injuring the cornea, the edema of the stroma is usually diagnosed, the corneal structure is destroyed and the transparency is broken.
  2. The most dangerous injury to the eye, which is accompanied by bleeding in the hemophthalmus (into the eye chamber). Literally a minute after the impact, bloody exudate accumulates in the hemophthalmos, overlapping the eye, which significantly reduces vision, - hyphema.
  3. Contusion can lead to rupture of the iris in the pupil area, as a consequence, the pupil is not able to narrow, or expand, that is, respond to light. Such a bruise of the eye damages the nerve endings of the iris.
  4. A severe bruise of the eye can trigger the rupture of ligaments that support the lens - so in Latin is called the lens or our peculiar biological lens. It is thanks to the lens that a person can focus his eyes on objects, objects, the lens is responsible for the refraction of light and its conductivity to the retina. If the retaining ligaments are damaged, the trauma of the lens itself is inevitable, and, hence, the loss of its transparency. Dislocation of the lens and cataract caused by a bruise is one of the most dangerous consequences of eye contusion.
  5. A bruised eye can damage the retina until it detaches. This occurs in the case of a large force stroke, when the capillary grid, located under the retina - also called retina (Retina) breaks. There is a special ophthalmological term - Berlin's clouding of the retina or traumatic retinopathy. As a result of the injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, the deep layers of the retina are swollen due to the fact that the exudate exits into the space between the retina and the vascular layer (membrane).

Symptoms of eye contusion are very specific, they include the following symptoms:

  • Severe pain in the area of the damaged eye.
  • Sensitivity to light (photophobia).
  • Increased tear.
  • Noticeable decrease in visual acuity.
  • Cranial dystonia or blepharospasm (eyelids are closing involuntarily).

First aid with eye contusion

An eye contusion of any severity presumes at least a visit to the ophthalmologist, since damage to an extremely vulnerable vascular network that permeates sclera is inevitable. The process of restoring injured capillaries takes an extended period, if not started a specific therapy, there will be a blood clotting and the formation of a coarse coarse tissue. As a consequence, either detachment of the retina, or damage to the lens and in the future the risk of cataracts, glaucoma. Before there will be an opportunity to receive consultation and treatment at the doctor, it is necessary to provide complete rest to an eye. It is applied a sterile dry bandage. Excludes any physical activity, slopes and sharp turns to avoid the risk of detachment of the retina. Drops with a contusion of the eye are used as a prophylaxis for getting the infectious agent into the injured area - it is possible to inject sulfacetamide (albucid).

Bronchial eye of mild and moderate severity lies in outpatient treatment, more serious cases suggest permanent medical control and require hospitalization.
