IgG antibodies to HDV are normally absent in blood serum.
Antibodies to HDV IgG (anti-HDV IgG) appear during the recovery period (3-8 weeks after the onset of the disease), their concentration gradually decreases over several months (sometimes they are detected for 1-2 years in low concentrations). Determination of antibodies to HDV IgG can serve as a criterion for retrospective diagnosis of hepatitis of previously unspecified etiology.
Application of the method for determining IgG antibodies to HDV:
- diagnosis of acute viral hepatitis D - recovery period;
- diagnosis of chronic persistent hepatitis;
- diagnosis of chronic carriage.
