With frequent exacerbations of pyelonephritis (more than two within 6 months), prevention of pyelonephritis consists in the appointment of monthly preventive courses (1-2 weeks) of antibacterial drugs, but reliable data indicating the feasibility of such courses have not been received at this time. In elderly patients and patients with a long-term urinary catheter, the risk of complications of therapy significantly exceeds the potential benefit.
After eliminating the symptoms of urinary tract infections (acute or exacerbation of chronic), prolonged prevention of pyelonephritis, or more precisely - preventive treatment. Recommended two- or three-month intake of nitrofurans, preparations nalidix or pipemidic acid, herbal medicine, especially in patients prone to relapse. In the interval between receiving antimicrobial agents, it is preferable to treat herbs (bearberry, cranberry leaves, wild strawberry leaves, birch leaves, cranberry berries, cranberry berries, etc.) and complex charges. Very actual use of standardized phytopreparations existing in convenient, ready-to-use medicinal forms (kanefron H, phytolysin, etc.). The use of herbal collections during the period of high activity of the inflammatory process does not significantly affect bacteriuria, but improves urodynamics. During the period of the process's abatement, phytotherapy has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect and can be used in combination with the above chemotherapeutic agents and separately as a supportive multi-month therapy. Sometimes, in the presence of contraindications to active antibiotic therapy, phytopreparations become the therapy of the 1st line.
Diet for chronic pyelonephritis
The diet for chronic pyelonephritis is close to physiological, the restriction of salt is recommended only in the presence of arterial hypertension and edemas. There should be an adequate mode of liquid intake - 1.5-2 liters daily. Patients with chronic pyelonephritis without exacerbation with sufficient renal function and without severe arterial hypertension (up to 170/100 mm Hg) can be recommended spa treatment (usually drinking resorts): Truskavets, Zheleznovodsk, Mineral Waters, Kislovodsk, Sairme, Karlovy Vary.
