Today, teeth cleaning has become not only a popular procedure, but has also rightfully entered the list of necessary hygiene procedures for every 3rd person on the planet. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning is both a hygienic and aesthetic procedure: after cleaning, tooth enamel noticeably brightens, breath becomes fresh and clean, and many patients note a feeling of pleasant freedom and the absence of something unnecessary in the oral cavity.
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning procedures involve the removal (ultrasonic crushing) of such dental deposits as tartar and plaque. Plaque precedes tartar (a harder formation that forms between the tooth and gum). If plaque is not removed in a timely manner, over time it will transform into tartar, which can disrupt blood circulation in the oral cavity, cause periodontal disease (gum inflammation), caries, and even gum abscesses. In addition, tartar, being a product of hardening of food residues, emits an unpleasant and pungent odor that cannot be removed simply by brushing your teeth.
Taking into account all of the above, ultrasonic teeth cleaning is a clear necessity.
Professional ultrasonic teeth cleaning is performed using an ultrasonic teeth cleaning device - an ultrasonic scaler. It should be noted that many people who know about the need for a teeth cleaning procedure avoid it under any pretext (it is expensive, there is no time, etc.), as they are terrified of dentists. But know that if such a procedure is recommended to you (which is almost always performed before any dental treatment) - do not be afraid and boldly go to a dental hygienist. Ultrasonic cleaning is an absolutely painless non-invasive procedure (without drilling or cutting), which is carried out using special soda, which, under the pressure of water, through small oscillatory movements, destroys unnecessary deposits on the teeth.
Is ultrasonic teeth cleaning harmful?
You can often hear from people who are ignorant and especially wary of everything new that such modern procedures as, for example, tanning in a solarium, trimmed manicure or teeth cleaning are extremely harmful and undesirable. As a rule, such experts do not provide reasons, simply following the phrase: "It's harmful - and that's it!" But we urge you to be prudent and not to listen to unfounded arguments. Teeth cleaning is a necessary hygienic procedure that does not damage at all, but on the contrary - saves tooth enamel from unwanted and pathogenic deposits. It has long been proven by worldwide dental practice that timely ultrasonic teeth cleaning can prevent many dental problems and significantly reduce the number of visits to the dentist.
Very often, ultrasonic teeth cleaning is confused with teeth whitening, which can actually damage tooth enamel and make it more fragile. Unlike whitening, teeth cleaning does not change the color of the enamel dramatically - it only slightly lightens the enamel to its original color by removing unnecessary deposits on the bone tissue (stones, in simple terms).
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning air flow
One of the varieties of popular ultrasonic teeth cleaning is sandblasting ultrasonic cleaning using the Air Flow device. The principle of Air Flow cleaning is the same as that of conventional ultrasonic cleaning, the only difference is that during this cleaning, a large number of sand-like abrasive particles fall on the surface of the teeth under high pressure. The particles are so abrasive that they allow you to limit yourself to one cleaning session until plaque and tartar are completely removed, whereas with conventional ultrasonic cleaning, several sessions may be needed. In addition, during sandblasting cleaning, the enamel is lightened by 2-3 tones. It should be noted that in the countries of the European Union, Air Flow sandblasting cleaning is included in the compulsory medical insurance program and has proven itself to be highly effective, fast (complete cleaning is done in 1 hour) and painless. It is worth noting that any teeth cleaning is always preceded by such procedures as whitening. Any dentist will tell you that you cannot whiten your teeth without cleaning them, all
Just as you can’t paint a car without washing and wiping it first.
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning during pregnancy
During pregnancy, there are many contraindications to what is absolutely safe for non-pregnant women. Many argue that it is generally impossible to treat teeth during pregnancy, but we do not live in the Stone Age and we understand that if the need for treatment or cleaning is justified, and all precautions are taken, you can safely do cleaning or treat teeth without fear of negative consequences.
World practice of obstetrics and gynecology has shown that serious diseases of the oral cavity can not only negatively affect the health of the fetus, but also lead to premature birth. Therefore, expectant mothers can safely go to the doctor if they do not have absolute contraindications (see above).
If a woman is afraid of pain, the dentist will anesthetize locally, using the most gentle anesthesia that is harmless to the health of the mother and child.
During pregnancy, gums weaken - gum tissue becomes looser and softer. And this state of gums is a favorable environment for excess food to get there and for pathogenic bacteria to multiply. That is why you should not avoid going to the dentist to clean your teeth. But one wish should still be taken into account - you should not postpone cleaning your teeth until the last trimester of pregnancy - it is better to do it during the first 6 months.
Contraindications to ultrasonic teeth cleaning
Although the ultrasonic teeth cleaning procedure is painless and harmless to the enamel, there are still some contraindications that you should definitely read before the procedure. The following contraindications are highlighted:
- Presence of dental implants.
- Cardiac arrhythmia.
- Chronic bronchitis and bronchial asthma.
- Tooth hypersensitivity.
- When the bite changes (childhood and adolescence).
- The presence of a disease that is considered to be an extreme risk for the patient (HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis).
It should be said that children with baby teeth or recently erupted molars should never undergo ultrasonic cleaning. In such cases, the dentist performs so-called manual cleaning using special dental instruments, and then polishes the surfaces of the tooth roots.
For adults without the main contraindications listed above, ultrasonic cleaning of plaque and tartar deposits is recommended to be performed no more than once every 3-4 months (plaque or even tartar will not form earlier, provided that teeth are brushed correctly in the morning and evening).
Diet after ultrasonic teeth cleaning
Patients often ask what is allowed and what is not allowed after ultrasonic teeth cleaning, and they are right to do so, since the gums and enamel, which are somewhat weakened after cleaning, can be easily damaged during the recovery period after the procedure for removing plaque and tartar. There are the following rules that should be followed after the ultrasonic cleaning procedure:
- For a couple of days after the procedure, you should not eat food that stains (unclarified juices, black tea, coffee, beetroot and carrot juice).
- Brush your teeth after each meal (at least 2 times a day).
- Remove food debris after dinner using toothpicks, dental floss and special dental brushes, as the gum canals are still widened after brushing, and without proper removal of food from the oral cavity, food debris can again begin to be deposited directly into the dental pockets.
- Eating solid foods for prevention (preferably solid vegetables and fruits).
By following the above rules, plaque and tartar will not bother you any time soon.
How much does ultrasonic teeth cleaning cost?
The price of ultrasonic cleaning can sometimes determine whether or not to go to the dentist. It is worth noting that the price of this procedure varies in public and private clinics, as well as between private clinics. But, in general, everyone can afford an ultrasonic cleaning procedure once every 3-4 months without much damage to their budget. The average price of ultrasonic teeth cleaning is 300-600 UAH (the price varies depending on the complexity of the cleaning and the cleaning agent used). The cost of professional cleaning also includes covering the teeth with a protective varnish after the cleaning procedure. This varnish will protect the tooth enamel for the first time after the procedure.
Reviews of ultrasonic teeth cleaning
It is worth noting that the reviews of people who have tried ultrasonic teeth cleaning speak for themselves. Some people note slight discomfort at the beginning of cleaning (which is often associated with a large amount of dental plaque), but everyone is happy with the result of the procedure. Every second patient notes that their teeth have become 2-3 shades lighter, and almost everyone notes an unusual lightness in the mouth and noticeable freshness of breath. Having tried this necessary procedure once, many become regular visitors to dentists for periodic cleaning of tooth enamel from plaque and so-called "tartar".
Here are some reviews about teeth cleaning:
"I had gum inflammation, and my dentist advised me to have my teeth cleaned. I thought it would hurt, but it turned out to be pleasant - a kind of massage for the gums. Now I do regular cleaning every 3 months - I forgot about periodontosis and gum problems." Elena, Kyiv.
"I'm afraid to treat my teeth even in my sleep, but I do ultrasonic cleaning regularly. Now I don't have problems with fresh breath, and my teeth are not so yellow anymore." Dmitry, Minsk.
"The dentist said that the problem with bad breath is due to the large amount of tartar. I smoke a lot, love coffee and often forget to brush my teeth at night. I was very afraid of cleaning, but I decided to do it and immediately felt as if my mouth had been freed from a couple of extra pounds. I have been doing regular cleaning for 3 years now. The first few times there was a little blood, but it quickly dried up and washed out with saliva. After each cleaning, the first couple of days there was increased sensitivity of the teeth, but this quickly passes. I am happy with the result (white teeth and fresh breath). I recommend it to everyone." Katya, Dnepropetrovsk.
