For various reasons, the delicate skin on the heels sometimes begins to coarsen, thicken, vertical notches appear, turning into cracks. In addition to the unaesthetic appearance, which annoys more women who are forced to wear open shoes in the warm season, this is also very painful. What should be done to eliminate them and what alternative means are there for this?
Treating cracked heels at home
First of all, you need to find out the reasons for this phenomenon, because. It can be caused by various pathologies, which should be mainly treated. Among them are diabetes mellitus, other endocrine problems that adversely affect metabolic processes, iron deficiency anemia, hypovitaminosis.
On the other hand, hardening of the heels can be caused by improper or untimely foot care, walking on the ground without shoes, fungal infections, dermatitis, dry skin, which often occurs during menopause as a result of a decrease in elastin and collagen.
Whatever causes this condition, in addition to measures to eliminate it, you need to constantly engage in external heel care.
There are many ways to remove cracks at home, although this process cannot be called fast. Baths include:
- dissolve sea salt in hot water, hold your feet in it for at least 15 minutes, remove the keratinized layer with a pumice stone or a special brush, apply a nourishing foot cream, put on socks;
- do the same in a solution of soda;
- use a decoction of string and calendula;
- make a gruel from boiled potato peel, dilute it with a small amount of hot water, sufficient to cover the feet, hold the feet for 15-20 minutes, rinse, smear the cracks with iodine.
Compresses are quite effective. They are applied to the heels, fixed with polyethylene, and insulated on top. As a therapeutic composition, you can use gruel from grated onion, sour apple or honey. Well helps oatmeal, boiled in water with the addition of linseed oil. Compresses can be left on all night. After removal in the morning, the feet are wiped dry, lubricated with a moisturizer, and preferably with a fat cream.
Ointments for cracked heels
Pharmaceutical ointments, which contain urea, are very effective from cracks in the heels, but they are not cheap either. Here, alternative recipes will come to the rescue, according to which homemade ones are prepared with the main ingredient - fat:
- on a steam bath, interior pork fat is melted, grated carrots are added and aged for 30 minutes, after cooling, the resulting cream can be applied;
- olive, almond oil and crushed plantain grass are mixed, vaseline is added in a volume exceeding that obtained by 10 times;

- mix equal parts Kalanchoe juice with lanolin;
- pharmacy glycerin (3 parts), the same amount of vinegar essence is combined with two parts of alcohol;
