Treatment of recurrent typhoid fever is carried out for 7-10 days by one of the antibiotics acting on Borrelia. The drugs of choice are tetracyclines: doxycycline 100 mg twice daily or tetracycline, 0.5 g four times a day.
Alternative antibacterial drugs include erythromycin in a daily dose of 1 g and benzylpenicillin 2-3 million units per day intramuscularly.
At the same time, an infusional detoxification treatment of recurrent typhoid fever is prescribed.
It should be borne in mind that after the initiation of antibiotic treatment (especially benzylpenicillin), the reaction of Yarisch-Gersheimer's aggravation is possible.
Convalescents are discharged from the hospital not earlier than 3 weeks after the final normalization of body temperature.
