In most cases, osteoporosis is asymptomatic. Complications of severe osteoporosis are fractures of tubular bones, and with glucocorticoid osteoporosis, compression fractures of the vertebrae are more common. As a result, a number of patients complain of a feeling of fatigue in the back, especially with a vertical load, pain in the thoracic or lumbar spine, which are caused by compression of the nerve roots by vertebrae deformed due to a compression fracture. The severity of the pain syndrome can be different: from severe pain, immobilizing the patient, to sensations that occur only when pressing or poking on the vertebrae. Moderate pain decreases or disappears after resting in the lying position.
The consequence of vertebral fractures can also be a decrease in growth, deformation of the chest, "hump" (thoracic kyphosis), especially pronounced in adult patients.
It should be remembered that if a child has a bone fracture when falling from the height of his height without acceleration, it is necessary to examine him for the diagnosis of osteoporosis in children. This does not apply to situations with fracture of the skull bones, flat bones, phalanges of the fingers.
