Laboratory diagnostics of strongyloidiasis consists of identifying S. stercoralis larvae in feces or in duodenal contents using special methods (Berman's method, its modifications, etc.). In case of massive invasion, larvae can be detected in a native smear of feces. In case of generalization of the process, helminth larvae can be detected in sputum and urine.

Additional instrumental diagnostics of strongyloidiasis (X-ray examination of the lungs, ultrasound, EGDS with biopsy of the gastric mucosa and duodenum) is carried out according to clinical indications.

Indications for consultation with other specialists

Depending on which organs are affected, consultations with a gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, neurologist, or cardiologist are indicated.

Indications for hospitalization

Treatment of patients with uncomplicated strongyloidiasis is carried out on an outpatient basis; patients with generalized and hyperinvasive strongyloidiasis are hospitalized in an infectious diseases hospital.

Differential diagnosis of strongyloidiasis

Differential diagnostics of strongyloidiasis based on the clinical picture is difficult, which is explained by the polymorphism of strongyloidiasis manifestations. In the migratory stage, strongyloidiasis is differentiated from the migratory stage of ascariasis and other helminthiases, in the chronic stage - from gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, chronic cholecystitis, pancreatitis.
