Dead Sea scrub - that is, a composition containing salt or Dead Sea healing mud for cleansing the skin and mechanically removing dead cells (corneocytes) - is an almost indispensable tool for those who care not only about their appearance, but also about the health of their skin.
After all, the outer covering of the human body is a complex organ that performs receptor, thermoregulatory, metabolic, secretory, excretory, respiratory and immune functions. And, moreover, it is the largest in area…
Indications for using Dead Sea scrub
If the stratum corneum of the skin is in a normal condition, a scrub, including a scrub from the Dead Sea, should not be used. Since keratin, which has an ion-hydrogen index in the range of 5.0-6.0, as well as the protective water-fat film (mantle) of the skin with a high concentration (up to pH 6.7) of hydrogen ions, protect the skin from pathogenic microbes and substances that irritate the skin. If the skin's acidity level is disturbed (for example, with acne it shifts closer to alkaline), the skin's antibacterial self-defense can be restored by deep skin cleansing. This improves blood circulation, stimulates the restoration of the skin's acid reaction and replenishes the deficiency of glycophospholipids.
It is important to consider that oily skin is “acidic”, while dry skin is closer to alkaline (therefore, regular soap should not be used for this type of skin). When using Dead Sea scrubs, pay attention to the pH level indicated by their manufacturers. For peeling to be beneficial, the pH should be at 5.5. And it should be done no more than twice a month.
Indication for use of Dead Sea scrub (body scrubs with Dead Sea mud) – obvious signs of cellulite. Minerals of therapeutic mud improve blood supply to tissues and activate intracellular metabolic processes.
Useful properties of Dead Sea scrub
The beneficial properties of the Dead Sea scrub are manifested in its ability to remove from the skin pores (the excretory ducts of the sebaceous and sweat glands) everything that prevents it from breathing normally, as well as remove pathogenic microorganisms and dying cells of the topmost layer of the skin - the horny layer. By the way, if the skin is constantly peeling, this is a sign that it is working hard - protecting the body from substances and microorganisms that get on the surface of the skin or into its upper layers.
Of the five layers of the epidermis, only the stratum corneum consists of flat epithelial cells that are capable of rapid renewal. Epithelial cells divide by indirect division (mitosis) and migrate to the surface of the skin. At the same time, their basal membranes flatten even more, become saturated with fibrillar protein (keratin), and the acidity of the liquid medium increases. In this way, the cells of the superficial layer of the skin, which, as they say, have served their purpose, are constantly replaced.
In this process, during the renewal of the cells of the stratum corneum of the skin, an amorphous substance with glycoproteins and calcium ions, as well as extracellular structures with fibrillar protein (collagen type IV) are synthesized again on their basal membranes. And between the membranes of all renewed epithelial cells, the finest protein "threads" are formed each time - tonofibrils, providing mechanical strength and at the same time elasticity of human skin.
Using a Dead Sea scrub - peeling - allows you to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and deeply cleanse your skin. And thanks to the fact that these scrubs use salt crystals as a mechanical exfoliant (abrasive)
Dead Sea, the process of physical skin cleansing is combined with enrichment of the epidermis with essential ions of macro- and microelements. The use of Dead Sea scrub helps smooth the skin, reduce acne outbreaks and improve complexion.
For example, Dead Sea scrubs produced in Israel (Mineralium Dead Sea, Dead Sea Premier, etc.) contain not only salt, but also aromatic oils that enrich these cosmetics with liposomes. According to the manufacturers, the scrubs gently exfoliate the skin and naturally disinfect it. In addition, they stimulate cellular metabolism, thus accelerating the regeneration of skin cells. To do this, simply apply a small amount of the scrub to cleansed skin, gently rub it into the skin with light circular motions, and then rinse with water. It is recommended to apply a small amount of moisturizing cream to your face after this, appropriate for your specific skin type.
Contraindications to using Dead Sea scrub
It is absolutely contraindicated to use Dead Sea scrubs if you have hypersensitive skin, scratches, fresh wounds, mosquito bites or scratches.
You should not cleanse your skin with scrubs if you have any inflammatory lesions on the skin surface or acne in the progression stage.
Please note that some components of scrubs with Dead Sea minerals can damage the stratum corneum of the skin, especially when intensively rubbing these products into the skin of the face or body.
There are also contraindications to using Dead Sea scrub for very oily skin. The fact is that after such an intensive cleansing of the stratum corneum, the process of sebum production (an important component of skin protection) can be activated. So the effect can be negative.
Dead Sea Scrub Reviews
A sufficient number of reviews after using the Dead Sea scrub indicate that “the skin became clean, smooth and velvety.”
However, there are responses according to which the Dead Sea scrub for cleansing the skin caused irritation, itching and redness of the skin. Some visitors to cosmetics forums note that, succumbing to advertising, some women try to use face and body care products without taking into account the individual characteristics of their skin.
By the way, the thickness of the stratum corneum of the skin does not exceed 10 microns, so it is not difficult to damage it with any scrub.
