One of the many causes of psoriasis is considered to be an unfavorable hereditary factor: that is, if someone in the family suffered from this disease, then subsequent generations have a high chance of getting sick. What can be done to reduce the risk of illness? Is it possible to prevent psoriasis in people with a predisposition to the pathology?

In fact, scientists have not yet established the true cause of psoriasis. The numerous factors that influence the onset of the disease do not allow us to determine a specific method of prevention. However, several years ago, specialists identified a number of preventive measures that help prevent the development of the disease. The purpose of such measures is to prevent the creation of conditions in the body that are favorable for the development of psoriasis.

Prevention of psoriasis at home

  • Psoriasis is a disease that primarily affects the skin. Therefore, skin care is an important part of prevention. This approach will help not only prevent an unpleasant and incurable disease, but also simply be the owner of beautiful and healthy skin.
  1. Moisture is one of the most essential factors for human tissues. If you do not allow the skin to dry out, then a disease such as psoriasis will have very little chance of gaining a foothold. It is necessary to replenish the lack of fluid both from the outside and from the inside. Therefore, baths (herbal, salt), showers, dousing or wet rubbing, swimming in ponds, as well as drinking enough water - clean, without additives in the form of sugar and carbon dioxide - should become an important daily attribute.
  2. During hygiene procedures, it is advisable to use soft washcloths that do not injure the skin and cannot cause irritation.
  3. You should not use aggressive body scrubs (especially homemade ones), as well as bar soap, which dries the skin. It is better to use liquid cream soap or a special shampoo.
  4. Special detergents intended for psoriasis patients have a good preventive effect. Such products are sold in pharmacies and some beauty salons.
  5. When preventing psoriasis, you should not allow your skin to dry out, so after hygienic procedures, you should apply a soft moisturizing cream or milk. Such products create a kind of protective barrier on the surface of the body, which prevents tissue dehydration. You should use moisturizing cosmetics regularly: daily from 1 to 3 times a day.
  6. During the heating season, it is recommended to monitor the humidity level in the room where you spend most of your time. The same advice is relevant in the summer if you use an air conditioner. To humidify the air, special devices are usually used - humidifiers, which spray small particles of moisture around themselves. The optimal humidity level in an apartment or office is from 50 to 70%.
  7. When doing any work, it is advisable to use protective gloves to minimize the likelihood of skin injury. Scratches, abrasions and other microtraumas contribute to the relapse of psoriasis.
  8. In addition to the skin, it is also necessary to take care of the nails, carefully and promptly cutting off the growing part.
  • Massage has a good healing effect on the skin, improving blood circulation in the tissues, thereby accelerating local metabolic processes. During a massage session, the removal of metabolic residues is facilitated, tissues are cleansed and restored.

For the prevention of psoriasis, massages are carried out in courses of 10-12 sessions, 2 times a year. If there are already isolated psoriatic rashes on the body, then these areas should not be touched during the procedure.

  • Nutrition plays an important role in preventing psoriasis. Scientists have noticed that regular consumption of certain foods contributes to an exacerbation of the disease or aggravation of its clinical manifestations. From this we can conclude that excluding certain products from the diet will help reduce the likelihood of developing psoriasis.

A preventive diet involves a number of restrictions and recommendations:

  1. You should avoid eating spicy, overly salty, smoked foods, as well as marinades, preservatives, and foods of dubious quality;
  2. Potentially allergenic products such as citrus fruits, red berries, and mango are also subject to restrictions;
  3. It is not advisable to consume large amounts of sugar, as well as chocolate, cocoa and strong coffee;
  4. the amount of potato dishes should also be limited, although you can eat potatoes in small quantities;
  5. The use of vegetable oils in food is encouraged. However, margarines, refractory fats and lard should be excluded;
  6. It is important to eat several dairy products daily - for example, cottage cheese, milk porridge, kefir, yogurt, cheese. The presence of sufficient calcium in the diet can prevent the development of allergies and inflammation;
  7. the basis of the diet should be plant food in the form of fresh vegetables, fruits, all kinds of greens. Plant components quickly restore the water-electrolyte and acid-base balance, which allows the skin to recover quickly and efficiently;
  8. We must not forget about healthy grains: as a side dish or main dish, cereals such as buckwheat, oatmeal, brown rice, and wheat will be very beneficial.

  • Smoking and drinking alcohol have the most negative impact on the course of psoriasis. There is ample evidence that alcohol leads to the aggravation and spread of the psoriatic process. People who smoke a pack of cigarettes daily are also at risk.

Nicotine and ethyl alcohol provoke irreversible changes in blood vessels, worsen microcirculation processes in the skin and weaken the immune forces in the body.

  • One of the factors that provoke the development of psoriasis is nervous tension, especially long-term or periodically repeated. Thus, severe stress, anxiety, fear, depressive states serve as an impetus for the onset of the pathological process. For this reason, one of the links in the prevention of psoriasis is a favorable psycho-emotional state of a person. In order to maintain your nervous system in the norm, it is recommended to rest as much as possible, get enough sleep, walk in the fresh air, and also regularly conduct relaxation sessions - for example, do yoga or meditation. If necessary, you can resort to taking various herbal preparations and herbal infusions, but we will talk about this below.
  • Prevention of psoriasis can be supplemented by spa treatment, because sea water in combination with sun rays is considered one of the best ways to cleanse the skin of psoriatic rashes. If going to the sea or relaxing in a sanatorium is impossible for some reason, then it is permissible to simply take sun baths, gradually making the ultraviolet irradiation session longer. "Solar" therapy should be repeated daily, starting with a 5-minute session, preferably during hours of inactive solar radiation (approximately from 8 to 10 am or after 4 pm in the evening). When starting to take baths, it is necessary to remember that sunburn can only worsen the situation with psoriasis, so exposure to ultraviolet rays should be strictly dosed.

Prevention of psoriasis with folk remedies

All kinds of folk methods can be used for prevention and treatment. As a rule, such recipes do not cause harm, but with their help you can significantly improve the condition of the skin and local immunity. We offer you the most popular folk remedies for the prevention of psoriasis.

  • Medicinal baths have a restorative and rejuvenating effect. For preventive purposes, it is advisable to take such baths once a week, or in courses - daily for a week, 2-3 times a year.
  1. 100 g of oak bark is boiled in six liters of water for 25 minutes, then filtered and added to the bath.
  2. 250 g of flax seed is poured with boiling water (5-6 l), infused for 1 hour, filtered and added to a bath of water.
  3. 100 g of sage is infused in 3 liters of boiling water for 30-40 minutes, then filtered and poured into a bath of water.
  • In addition to external procedures, you can brew and drink herbal teas, which will also bring considerable benefits in the fight against psoriasis:
  1. Brew 100 g of ground rose hips and 15 g of succession in 500 ml of water, leave for 40 minutes. Take 100 ml three times a day half an hour before meals;
  2. Every day drink 200 ml of fresh carrot juice with two crushed cloves of garlic;
  3. add a little oregano or elderberry to regular tea and drink it throughout the day, at least 3 times.

If it is not possible to go to the sea, then you can do salt dousing or rubbing, or take baths with the addition of sea salt.

To prepare a salt bath, take 250 g of sea or regular table salt and dilute it in hot water, then pour it into a bath with warm water. The duration of the bath is 20 minutes, and the frequency is once every 2-3 days.

Vitamins for the prevention of psoriasis

Vitamin therapy is recognized as an effective addition to psoriasis prevention measures, because many vitamins directly affect the main processes occurring inside the body. Vitamins should also be remembered when composing a diet, trying to include more natural plant products in the menu.

Which vitamins should you pay special attention to?

  • Vitamin A helps the body cope with inflammatory processes. Liver, bell peppers, carrots, and cream are rich in this vitamin. Of the synthetic drugs, vitamin A is contained in Acetrin or Aevit, which can be taken 1-2 tablets daily for 1 month.
  • B vitamins are necessary to resist stressful situations and maintain skin turgor. Liver, buckwheat, nuts, and cauliflower are rich in B vitamins.

B vitamins are administered into the body in the form of intramuscular injections:

  1. vitamin B12 – 400 mcg once every two days for 3-4 weeks;
  2. Vitamin B6 – 3 ml of 5% vitamin solution once a day for 2 weeks.
  • Ascorbic acid improves the appearance of the skin, strengthens the immune system, and increases tissue elasticity. Vitamin C can be found in berries, rose hips, citrus fruits, and kiwi. Ascorbic acid in tablets can be taken at 0.03-0.05 g once a day for 1 month.
  • Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant that rejuvenates the skin, eliminates signs of inflammation and stops the development of allergic reactions. Vegetable oils, especially flaxseed oil, contain quite a lot of tocopherol. From pharmacy products, you can take Aevit or vitamin E (Zentiva).
  • Vitamin D strengthens bones, teeth and skin, preventing the development of inflammation in tissues. The best source of this vitamin is sunlight. However, there are also pharmaceuticals, such as Calcium D3 or Aquadetrim. The dosage of such drugs varies depending on the patient's age.

Vitamins for the prevention of psoriasis are prescribed taking into account the tests to avoid hypervitaminosis. In addition, the patient's individual intolerance to some vitamins is also taken into account, because an allergic reaction can serve as a stimulus for the development of psoriasis.

As you can see, preventing psoriasis is not that difficult. The measures described are within the power of any person who really wants to be healthy. In addition, an active lifestyle, proper nutrition and taking care of your body can serve as a preventive measure against other unwanted diseases.
