Periodic pain in women, occurring in the lower abdomen on the right or left, may be associated with the ovulation process. Such sensations as pain during ovulation occur periodically, at the same time after the end of menstruation, and have approximately the same intensity.

Why does pain occur during ovulation?

Many women note the very appearance of pain, however, for many the pain syndrome is so weak that it does not attract attention. If a woman still pays attention to pain, this means that during ovulation the follicle containing the egg ruptured (this is a natural process) and a small amount of blood entered the abdominal cavity, the appearance of which caused the nerve endings to react. The follicle is responsible for the "maturation" of the egg and has a fairly developed system of vessels to feed the developing potential life. When the egg is released, a certain amount of blood always enters the abdominal cavity. The body copes with the appearance of a blood clot in the "wrong" place on its own and this process is not dangerous to life and the functioning of the reproductive system. In extremely rare cases, pain during ovulation is constantly high in intensity and requires medical correction. The occurrence of pain syndrome during ovulation is caused by receptors of nerve endings, which evaluate the appearance of blood components outside the bloodstream as a serious threat to life and report a "breakdown" to the brain, i.e. the larger the clot, the more powerful the signal and the stronger the pain during ovulation. The amount of blood released during ovulation is individual, this feature can be inherited.

How does pain manifest itself during ovulation?

Considering the fact that in the female body ovulation occurs alternately in one of the ovaries, pain during ovulation is noted in the projection of the ovulating ovary alternately, from month to month, changing from right-sided to left-sided. If the monthly hormonal cycle has a duration of 28 days, then the appearance of unpleasant sensations in the lower abdomen on the right or left should be predicted on the 14th day from the onset of menstruation.

Painful sensations can be sharply expressed, but quickly passing, pain during ovulation never lasts for many days or is unbearable. If a woman is accustomed to periodically occurring pain during ovulation, but the expected sensations do not coincide with the actual unfolding picture of the pain syndrome and various accompanying pains are added to the familiar sensations, and, for example, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset, you should consult a specialist, perhaps the pain during ovulation masked a more serious disorder or there was an accidental coincidence of ovulation and illness.

Like any hormonal changes, long periods of taking hormonal contraceptives (as well as pregnancy) can change the body's reaction to ovulation, in other words, pain during ovulation can become somewhat smoother over the years, and often pain between periods leaves a woman forever.
